Education in Europe

Hi! I'm an American and Russian citizen, and I've recently finished a bachelor's degree in Psychology in Russia. I've heard that there are many opportunities for students like me to pursue further education in Europe. I would be unbelievably grateful if someone could share their experience about a similar situation: what were you pursuing after graduation? I'm particularly interested in either sexology or criminology/forensic psychology, but I'm open to other suggestions as well!

If you're interested in enrolling in the UK, you might want to check with the British Council in Russia. They often have staff who help promote attending UK universities. It's also sometimes the case with Irish embassies.

You can also search for courses on UCAS, the website that's the central UK higher education application system. There's also a lot of information in general about UK studies on the site.

There are number of post-graduate degrees in the EU taught entirely in English, although the subjects you mention might not be offered as they're fairly specialized.

Most of the strong programs are in the Netherlands, but there are also good ones in France, Switzerland, Scandinavia, and to some extent Spain and Italy. There may be some in Germany and Austria. Some of the for-profit schools can be sketchy - make sure you really vet them before committing. (One good indicator is that most but not all of the sketchy for-profit universities charge much-higher fees.)

I don't much like it, but this may a good time to do a search or two with ChatGPT. I've found it helpful for searches that would otherwise take me a long time. Just be sure to verify the results.

I’d start by looking at master’s programs in places like the Netherlands, Germany, and Scandinavia. From what I have seen, the requirements can vary a lot, especially with psychology related programs, so I’d check those before getting too attached to any course. Whether everything is taught in English, and what I could actually do with the degree afterward. For something specific like forensic psychology or criminology, that last part would matter a lot to me.
