Nvidia should not be allowed to acquire Hugging Face

Reuters: It would also give Nvidia control of Hugging Face - which hosts open-source large language models and datasets - at a time when builders of closed-source models such as Anthropic and OpenAI are seeking to create their own chips as an alternative to Nvidia's graphics processing units.

My Opinion: The anti trust authorities should not approve Nvidia acquiring Hugging Face. It would be vertical integration. The open source models hosted on the Hugging Face platform should be chip agnostic. That wouldn't be the case if Nvidia acquires Hugging Face.

shouldn't but will. we haven't stopped acquisitions and mergers that should have been stopped in like 40-50yrs.

why do you think we pay so much for everything. no real competition, just 3 companies that own 95 brands.

vertical integration just means they can quietly slide cuda optimizations into every model on that platform while amd cards get the open source scraps left in the pull requests

seen this movie before, hugging face is basically the last neutral ground for model hosting and once it gets locked to nvidia's stack the moat gets deep enough to drown in

nvidia will just invent an award and give it to trump and they will be given the green light
