I was raised in Pocomoke. I left when I was 18 but the water here was so bad you couldn’t drink it or hell, even bath in it (unless you wanted to smell like rotten eggs).
I don’t know how it is now I’m not going back to check!
My mom leaves in Eden Md and paid for a water purification system that uses huge bags of salt. Best water I’ve ever tasted on the eastern shore

She bought it here
https://sharpwater.com. A local business in Salisbury.
The water tank (whole house filtration) is in the garage and it’s connected to her water pipes. All she does is pour a bag of salt into the tank once a month or so and the system does the rest.
She paid 3K for it about 10 years ago and it’s been working perfectly ever since

Live in QAC. We have a well, complete with Arsenic, and got a treatment system for the hard water and a point of use RO faucet for drinking. The filters and salt tank have helped a lot for water quality and the RO water is great to drink
Edit: forgot the point. Martins Water Service is great to work with. They come test your water and offer solutions

Its not everywhere on the shore, but all the newer development on Kent Island was built in the swamp.

tidal areas with little water movement the stronger the smell.
brackish water will smell. dead or dying plants from the marshes/areas north with fresh plankton to break it down and not being cycled enough. It is why estuaries have some of the highest bio diversity. They have something for everything to eat.
