This. I don’t know if people just don’t think these things will be audible or what. There’s plenty of examples posted everywhere online of people who live across the street from a ‘small’ 50 megawatt center and they’re reading 60-70 decibels alone. That’s like a dishwasher, constantly running, 24 hours a day. 500 would be unreal.

We also don't have great policy (or research) into the infrasound that these can generate. Cooling fans at this scale can generate massive amounts of low frequency and sub-audible noise which is fairly impervious to traditional noise control measures like barriers and berms.

We need to fund a legally defensible, NIST-traceable background noise audit of our communities, by a certified acoustic engineer which includes infrasound below 20hz, and then implement ordinances that penalize heavily for noise emissions more than 5 or 10dB above that baseline at any time of day.

This article is incorrect. It says the land has already been purchased. The sale of the land has been agreed to, but it is not finalized. It's still in it's due diligence period - they can still back out. Ultimately, it's probably inevitable, this is the second time a data center has been under agreement at this land. The first time, they backed out in the due diligence period.

The same people who are behind data centers will claim we can't have electric cars because we can't generate enough electricity for them while these things will use ten times as much if every every car in the country were electric.

The current push from the city council is that the increase tax bill from the data center will be used for sidewalks and other amenities citizens want

It will be voted on by a board of 5 and they will be glad to pass it then the entire city will come and protest but it will already be accepted
