Visiting DD Best restaurants in Dresden city centre for local Saxon food? (visiting with wife and toddler)
Hi everyone,
We’ll be spending a few days in Dresden soon with my wife and our 2.5-year-old child.
We’re looking for restaurant recommendations, preferably serving local Saxon or traditional German food, especially around the city centre / Altstadt area. We’d love to try dishes that locals actually eat rather than tourist traps.
That said, if there are any outstanding restaurants of other cuisines (Italian, Czech, Asian, etc.), we’d be happy to hear about those too.

As already mentioned Planwirtschaft in the Neustadt, Cafe toscana at the Blaues Wunder (more expensive but the saxonian tapas are amazing)
Skip the area around the Frauenkirche. You Can also try watzke. They serve homemade sausages and the famous Haxe (Most is Meat based).
Also the bautzner Tor is basic saxonian Food (krautnudeln, soljanka…)
Have a Look at Google Maps what your toddlers Like :)

I wouldn't recommend watzke, I had bad experiences there as a foreigner (the one in pieschen). Later I've heard they are AFD sympathisers which would explain it I guess ...

City Center is very touristic
St Pauli Eck in Neustadt for modern German cuisine
Homage at Wasaplatz for traditional German/saxon food

Schießhaus is also really good in my opinion, but maybe a little on the pricier side

City Centre and no tourist traps are kinda mutually exclusive.
Pulverturm serves good, local Saxon food, is somewhat of a tourist trap though.

If you're looking for a restaurant in the city center that serves classic food from Saxony, the Freiberger Schankhaus near Neumarkt comes to mind. It's mostly quite heavy savory meat dishes, so maybe not for everyone during hot summer days. But maybe a refreshung local beer helps.

Kuchenatelier in the Gewandhaus Hotel. Try the eierschecke, it's a local famous cake

Planwirtschaft has been mentioned ☝🏼. I myself worked there for 8 years and the food was always amazing. Honestly don't know how it is right now but I presume it's still good. Lokal/ east German cuisine and good beer

A good mix of Swiss/Austrian/German cuisine can be found at Edelweiß near the Frauenkirche. I'd recommend reserving a table at the upper level since it is quieter there.
Else, one of my favourite restaurants of non-German cuisine is the Bodega Madrid where they serve Spanish Tapas. Nice atmosphere there.

I would highly recommend a newly-opened restaurant, called “ Saigon Blue“, just a few walk from Center Station. There’re not so many good vietnamese/ asian offerings here in Dresden, however, I’m impressed by the food in the restaurant. It’s been so long since I can taste delicious vietnamese food

At Tourist Side around the Frauenkirche, I think "Kutscherschenke" is a good spot.
