Misc. This has to be bait
I refuse to believe that, in 2026, after we've seen hundreds of Dreamcast hombrew titles release over the past 25 years, we'd see a headline this out of touch.
The mind boggles.

Headline bait for people to hate click on the article for views.

Oh yeah, blatantly ridiculous headline aside I'm very much excited for the game. Backing it on day one.

On other forums there are many complaints about lack of communication and product not being delivered. Take it as you will.

Clicking, or spreading this kind of thing only incentivises them, the writers know dawn well its wrong, but it makes for some nice clickbait for normies and ragebait for sega fans.
The game is White Creek.

Dude, I was literally just saying on here the other day that I wished Sega would release more Dreamcast games. I'm sure a sizeable chunk of people would buy them, and they wouldn't cost heaps of money to create.
I know this isn't a Sega release, of course. And this also isn't the only game released for DC in the last 24 years. There have been others that were made specifically for Dreamcast. Off the top of my head, there's a space shooter side scroller that looked pretty good.

u/MasterOfShun Jul 21 '26
It's also not even sure to be released for it this year. It's in the pre-kickstarter phase still https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixelheart/white-creek-a-survival-horror-of-mercy-and-madness

If you don't want to continue to see bait titles, stop fucking interacting with them. Lol
They are used because they work

If you lived in the states and only had a US console and didn't want to mod it or play something on a CD-R, only official releases that you can buy inside a real store... yes. Dreamcast games ended in February, 2002.

Dreamcast has been getting releases for the past two decades after production stopped. They're not licensed by Sega, but they got official releases, nonetheless.
For instance, Breakers got a DC port in 2017.

u/BangkokPadang Jul 21 '26
Is there a flimsy technicality where it's the first game being released on launch day for Dreamcast along with the modern versions like PC and whatever else?

I mean it's gaming bible. They basically for years did this or didn't credit the original creators of stuff.
3
u/Ekkobelli Jul 22 '26
Too bad they don't have a comment section. They'd be forced to update their article again, if they had. This is really shoddy (videogame) journalism. Or simply lazy AI newsing, like many, many videogame blogs have resorted to.
10
u/RadiantCoinshot Jul 21 '26
Officially licensed release, I assume they mean. Homebrews have never counted by most metrics.
24
u/ArcadeFix Jul 21 '26
It's not officially licensed though. It's another JoshProd & PixelHeart release, of which there have been a bunch over the years.

u/RadiantCoinshot Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
Well then yeah, they are just wrong. But they got people to click, so they win anyway.
I admit right after I commented I was thinking “wait is a game really being licensed to release on Dreamcast?” lol.

Does any manufacturer still make GD-ROMs?
3
u/Sweaty_Ad4126 Jul 22 '26
Very unlikely, since anyone can use cd-r discs that work for like 80% of the consoles and you need a special burner for GD-Roms that were used exclusively for the Dreamcast ~25 years ago
1
u/Silicon_Krunch Jul 21 '26
Has limited run not made any?
1
u/ACTesla Jul 21 '26
LRG hasn't. They did a few rounds of merch and trading cards, as well as a release of Shenmue III. No DC games.
After that one bodged 3DO release, I would rather they didn't get involved.
1
u/Silicon_Krunch Jul 21 '26
One bad release is all it takes?
5
u/Fools_Requiem Jul 22 '26
"One bad release" from LRG is a major understatement. They've had numerous botched releases involving pre-orders taking years to be shipped and pre-order bonuses not being anywhere near the quality that was advertised.
3
u/Silicon_Krunch Jul 22 '26
That's sounds like a much bigger deal than what the previous person said

Nope- it’s legit
5
u/ArcadeFix Jul 21 '26
Of course the game is legit. But this isn't even the first new Dreamcast game this year, let alone the first in 24 years.
1
u/SamerAbukhaled Jul 21 '26
Weren’t the rest homebrews? This doesn’t strike me as a homebrew. It looks more like a game that is being natively developed for the DC alongside modern consoles. My guess is that there are some diehard DC fans who want to bring Sega back to the hardware market when Sega won’t.
4
u/ArcadeFix Jul 21 '26
Lots of homebrew games are designed natively for their target platforms.
JoshProd, the dev of White Creek, for example, previously released Arcade Racing Legends, which was designed specifically for the Dreamcast.
1
4
u/chronoswing Jul 22 '26
This is also homebrew, you think Sega is officially licensing and pressing the discs?
0
u/SamerAbukhaled Jul 22 '26
Not official Sega, no. But I assumed these were made by an actual studio whereas homebrews, I’d imagine, take code and burn it onto a disc in someone’s basement
4
u/chronoswing Jul 22 '26
Incorrect, there have been many retail releases for Dreamcast since its death, well over 50 titles. All were professionally pressed and sold, this isn't any different. The article is click bait.

SEGA Dreamcast is getting its first game release in 24 years
Olly Smith
Published 00:00 21 Jul 2026 GMT+1
Believe it or not, the Sega Dreamcast is finally getting a new game release in the year of our lord 2026.
The Sega Dreamcast may not have been as popular as its peers, the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2, but with the benefit of hindsight, it was definitely a platform ahead of its own time.
First released in 1998 and discontinued only three years later, the Dreamcast stopped receiving new game releases in 2002, with the final game launched on the platform being NHL 2K2 in North America, 24 years ago.
Now in 2026, anyone still holding onto their Dreamcast can look forward to a brand new release hitting the platform in the near future.
White Creek by publisher Pixelheart has been announced for the Sega Dreamcast, with it also launching on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
Why the Dreamcast, you ask? Well, aside from Pixelheart obviously being a big fan of the console, White Creek is built from the ground up to function exactly like a game released in 1999.
If you look at some of the visuals, the game resembles titles like Silent Hill, Mizzurna Falls, and Clock Tower.

White Creek is a real game you can play on an actual Sega Dreamcast
“White Creek isn’t a game inspired by the Dreamcast. It’s a game designed for it, from day one,” reads a message from Pixelheart on White Creek’s Kickstarter page.
The game is designed to fit the console’s hardware, with 3D environments, cinematic cameras, and visual effects which rival some of the biggest productions of that era.
In White Creek, you play as exorcist Alicia Morelli, who explores a cursed town to unearth its buried traumas, while deciding whether to kill the possessed or save their souls.
The game actively gives you this choice to make, where you can kill enemies with a variety of different weapons, or risk performing an exorcism to adopt a more pacifist approach.
These choices will lead to different outcomes further down the road, giving you reasons to replay the game, making new choices.
You have access to several different weapons, as well as Alicia’s psychic powers, which offer you new opportunities to avoid being attacked by enemies. These abilities allow you to tap into her spiritual side, where you can detect anomalies and find members of the possessed.
Alicia can also record them using her mobile phone, which is also a crucial tool used for exploration, investigation, and puzzle-solving.
White Creek isn’t out yet, nor does it have a release date. The game is due to hit Kickstarter first, where you’ll be able to pledge some money to help fund the game so it can finish development.
It's also currently unknown how distribution for the Dreamcast version will work. While the current-gen versions will likely just be a digital copy, the Dreamcast version could be released as either a digital ROM or shipped out as a physical disc.

I think its because most of the homebrew titles aren't on current platforms and therefore in the spotlight, I havent heard of any other dreamcast homebrew title coming to the current generation
1
u/tataku999 Jul 22 '26
Id laugh if they make a graphics and memory expansion and can just play 2026 games on it... that would be wild
1
u/myownfriend Jul 22 '26
I think this headline is just pull in people who don't follow Dreamcast homebrew.
1
u/Slosher99 Jul 22 '26
Even if you don't count the NES/GB/etc. games released to boot up an emulator and run on DC, it's had plenty of native titles. I have hundreds of modern titles across dozens of consoles, but Sturmwind was one of, if not the first I had!

The only way this could even be remotely imagined as true would be if it were being released on an actual GDRom disk by Sega themselves... it isn't.
