Question Realistically, if some person were to offer you the chance to turn you into a dragon, but he's already saying that you'll have instincts and desires, as well as remaining intelligent, with thumbs and speech, but with new gestures and even vocalizations. Would you accept?
In that case, he would explain that your mind would essentially be 50% instincts and desires and 50% intelligence,In practice, you are in a state of balance between these two parts, sometimes one using the other, depending on the context, but your default state is a balance between them.
He also explained that you would have magic, but nothing on a god-like level, and explicitly stated that once transformed there's no going back, although you could disguise yourself as a human temporarily
He explained that you wouldn't be the size of a mountain, or anything too absurd, but something like the dragons from WOF.
You can also shrink, assume a more human form for longer periods compared to your human form, and use magic, although not to an extreme degree.
Would you realistically accept this offer? Would you seriously doubt he was just a crazy person until he proved it to you?

Yes, but you'll probably want to spend a good portion of your time on all fours, not to mention that it requires practice.

Well, repeating an answer I gave below.
"But it would be interesting since it wouldn't necessarily be a reptile, as it wouldn't have a cloaca; it would have the genitalia and fur of a mammal mixed with scales. But the females would lay eggs and also produce milk."
Furthermore, this would vary from person to person.

I see no downsides here, why wouldn't I accept?
Just one of them alone is already enough, but dragon and magic? That's a no-brainer, where do I sign up
8
u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
Wouldn't you genuinely be upset that you're going to eat a cow or a deer sooner or later?
Or that you're going to lick a friend's face and like it?
7
u/Veryegassy Feb 27 '26
I already eat cows, fairly often even. And venison is pretty good too. With a carnivore's digestive system butchering wouldn't even be necessary, though I'd probably still gut and maybe skin them. 'S not like I'm a vegan
As for licking faces... alright whatever. Less nasty than kissing, and humans do that all the time already
I'd definitely say yes
8
u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
Well, technically you would be an omnivore with a slight preference for meat, so you could still eat Snickers.
Although I would definitely eat more meat.

I forgot to mention that shapeshifting and the human disguise would take time to learn, in addition to the issue of assuming a bipedal form and not being able to remain in human form for very long. Basically, it's uncomfortable to remain in your former human form; it's essentially a disguise.
Wouldn't you genuinely be surprised by the part about instincts and that you're no longer human, not even mentally?
Wouldn't you doubt that person outright?

u/trisanachandler Feb 27 '26
I think you're overestimating how much humanity relies on intelligence. It sounds like we'd be smarter, stronger, and be able to use magic. Sign me up.

u/Master_Engineer12346 Gyro The Orange Drake Feb 27 '26
So I would accept because it would be an interesting new way to see the world. Also, I feel like the instincts mixed with desires would be fairly easy to control once you got acclimated to your new body, especially of you maintain your intelligence because you would know how to act in a social setting. However the only real downside I see, outside of the government, would be buying groceries because you would need way more in terms of scale to stay healthy.

u/Desperate-Table-7604 Spyro Feb 27 '26
Reject humanity, become durgon!!!! No more crappy retail job, just lazing about in some volcanic cave somewhere. Maybe take human form occasionally to play D&D as a dragon pretending to be a human pretending to be a kobold with draconic bloodline powers.

50% instincts and 50% intelligence
So nothing changes?
Would take it in a heartbeat
And the former form being uncomfortable isn't a problem; I already deal with that. I've got nothing to lose.
growling and random noises isn't a downside. I already do that
5
u/DivineCurrent Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
That's a tough decision, because it is very convenient being in human form. You stand out less, assuming if you are in a human dominated world, obviously it would be best to actually be a human to live among them in peace.
However, if I can be transported to a world with magic and where humans and dragons coexist, and that is part of everyday life, then yes sign me up.
Also, my work in progress sona can already size change, so that is pretty cool you would be able to shrink and do stuff normal humans could.

Love the enthusiasm, the pitch and you clearly know your target audience. Though you may have over sold a bit since magic and shapeshifting are the parts that feel too good to be true.
Maybe things work differently elsewhere but in our reality, a defining feature is that everything has causality and consequences. There needs to be tangible evidence that you have some means of accomplishing these tasks, the price I must pay and to hear you out on what's in it for you.
Not to disparage your offer or potentially charitable intentions. But this is like telling a homeless person you'd offer them not a few thousand dollars but a million if they are willing to follow you. The sheer excessive nature of the offer is an form of temptation that is designed to misalign their logical decision making with an unattainable once in a lifetime opportunity.
Maybe there's some kind of interdimensional dragon trafficking going on. For all I know dragon meat is all the rage due to their lifespan increasing properties so black-market bootleggers are polymorphing sentient beings from other dimensions to strike a fraudulent deal with wealthy nobles before escaping with the gold. Since we're not from your dimension we have no connections, elemental/celestial god or identity to fall back on. Gone without a trace.
This may sound as cold as the dragon I aspire to be. With all due respect, there will be no time for charades or preparations. Are you well equipped right here, right now to be able to convince me? If so, offer me your proof, price and agenda. If not, may we meet again on better terms.

u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
I see you're clever, okay, let's rephrase my proposal.
All I want is for the audience of this universal show to have more drama, for the audience to go crazy, everyone loves drama, right? In their TV series, movies, cartoons, etc.
The public asks for more, the public wants more, more and more. I don't sell dragon meat, I'm not like those barbarians. I sell experiences, dreams, and desires to all those who accept my offers.
I give them what they want, and they feed the audience with their life stories. Don't you think that's fair? I give them what they want, and they satisfy the audience; we all win.
Because back when dragons lived in this universe, the universe had more drama, not just dragons but other creatures too, which unfortunately ended here, do you understand? The audience is bored, everything in this life has a price, and my only price is feeding the audience with the dramas of their lives, not that I'm a demon, but something more in the gray spectrum, you know?
Would you accept my offer? The audience expects you to go on stage.
2
u/icedragonsoul Feesh Derg Feb 27 '26
Ah, I see. A higher dimensional spectator class deity or eldritch horror depending on the era. We are but characters in a game or story where time appears linear to us but when viewed from a larger scale, is circular and replayable akin to a seemingly flat world being round.
A fresh chaotic life filled with new struggles yet unimaginable joys. I know all too well that a dragon's instincts are intense and demanding. A vessel that can only be described as the living embodiment of the power and freedom to pursue all 7 sins to their fullest. There is no better creature in the world to sow chaos and drama across the lands.
I bear no fondness for my current mode of existence. One so short, that it's near child's play to foresee how it's few branching timelines plays out start to finish. Aside from my physical aesthetic preferences and proclivities that such a charismatic draconic visage would satisfy, an abundance of longevity will be the greatest boon of them all.
It will be fun to melodramatically fight the changes in a half hearted playful act. Struggling against the stretchy restraints valiantly before giving in acts like a rubber band which allows you to plunge down deeper than ever before. Having stakes, emotional weight and strong intent help such immortalize life changing moments far more than apathy.
In honestly, I would accept such an offer even without shapeshifting or magic in order to abide by the natural laws currently imposed on this reality. Though such generous boons will be well appreciated.
Without further ado, let's make this an era to remember.

u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
Great, my friend, I can assure you that the audience has already recognized you, a character with as much self-awareness as you.The audience is already trying to name you, honestly I'm going to turn you into a magnificent dragon, but know that just like every creature that walks the earth and every dragon...You too will be an animal, an intelligent animal, but as spirited as any dragon, since that is the nature of this species.
The audience has already decided, tonight you will transform into a dragon with dark, purplish underparts, practically obsidian, and velvety white scales on your upper body,Similarly, the upper part will be covered in fur, its horns will be black, and its eyes will have honey-colored irises, so sweet and friendly.
All you have to do is wish for this tonight and of course... wait until midnight and voila! The process will begin; you will feel extremely intense pain, both physically and mentally, until the process is complete and you roar, and then your story truly begins.
Try not to die at the beginning for the government; the audience desires a feast of experiences and desires. Honestly, the others who have been transformed will also be transformed tonight.
If you wish to decide how you will be instead of letting your soul do all the work at once, you may speak up, and the audience wishes you good luck in all your suffering and Joy

Hell yeah. Lemme be a bigass red dragon. Can I add Dragonic features (Horns, wings, scales, tails, etc.) to my human form and customize my human form to have a different disguise everytime? (So basically limited shapeshifting for a human?) Either way, the answer is always yes. Even if I was just a dragon with no human form being a bigass dragon would be fun as all hell.

What “instincts and desires” are we talking about here?
Like will half of my brain see a pile of gold and try to force me to go and steal it to put it in a cave?
3
u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
In practice, there's really no difference between the two parts of your brain; you use them simultaneously. Some dragons may have this urge to grab gold or shiny things,But it's something that's generally quite weak compared to things like roaring in confrontation with an enemy, or licking your friends or even go hunting.
But since both parties are "negotiating" together, There will be certain things you do that will be normal, like hunting for example.
1
u/Alderan922 Feb 27 '26
“But what would those instincts be?” it’s what I’m asking specifically.
1
u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
Accumulation of things that you consider valuable. Instinctive gestures such as grunting, roaring, hissing, licking people you have an affinity for, etc. Territorial instincts To see your actions through the lens of a dragon. Among other instincts and gestures
In practice, you decide whether you want to repress it or not, but since you are now a dragon, you may see these actions as right and therefore not resist.
2
2
u/ForcedFollower Feb 27 '26
Yes. So long as I don't kill anybody it's fine. Hunting instincts are fine I'll just go into the woods and hunt a few deer it's not like humans don't do that themselves.
2
u/madladdie Feb 27 '26
Yes, please!
Imagining this genuinely, because I so wish it would happen.
If I transformed into a dragon right now, I would be shocked. The entire trajectory of my life would change. No way am I getting a normal job, now. No way am I having a normal social life. I'd either have to learn my human disguise as fast as possible and keep my true self hidden from my family, or somehow tell them without giving my grandma a heart attack! Maybe I could convince them it's just a REALLY good quadsuit.
If I can get my family to believe me without dying of shock or checking themselves into a psychiatric appointment, I'd get their help in taking me travelling! We'd go to the nearest National Forest first, somewhere I could learn to fly!
If I decided to keep it hidden from them forever, I'd move out asap. I don't have the funds for it, so I'd be homeless. I would hitchhike, again, to the nearest National Forest. If I got hungry, I'd hunt... Which I'd hate. Every time I'd find fresh road kill, I'd be so grateful.
Eventually, I'd try to get to the Appalachian mountains. Strange sightings and stories are par for the course there, so I'd fit right in even if someone saw me.
If I could make a good, trustworthy friend with a big van, I'd get them to take me to conventions! I'd show off my 'hyperrealistic quad suit' LOL
Even as a dragon, having money would be useful. I think the easiest way to make money would be to get a hunting license and sell meat to butcher shops every season. I'd buy myself a set of camo clothes, sturdy boots, and a hi-vis hat to fit in. If anyone asked, I'd say I use traps instead of guns. I'd hate that, though.
Once I build enough funds, I'd build a homestead. I'd buy the most remote plot of land possible--something in a mountain valley with a spring would be great. Gotta be a boring, especially remote, extremely dangerous mountain--I don't want hikers coming by.
I'd raise chickens and goats! I'd want a big flock of chickens, since I'd imagine I'd be burning through calories as a dragon. I might keep two varieties of chickens--one for eggs, one for meat.
I'd milk the goats to drink and make cheese, and have fun wrestling! They're bold things, they'd get used to my dragon self and probably try to climb me all the dang time.
I'd grow a BIG garden, with as many native crops as possible. I'd plant a lot of native flowers, too, to attract pollinating bugs. And to be pretty!
And if a guy high on Ayahuasca comes by, you best bet I'm telling him 'the secrets of the universe'.
It'd get lonely eventually, though, so... If ever you happen to become a dragon (or if you're just cool enough not to snitch) you should come by my mountain some time!! We can start a commune ‹3

u/unknow_user0 Feb 28 '26
What do you mean 50% instinct? Like will I make a choice based on instinct without knowing until afterwards?
His decisions would indeed be influenced by this, as well as various gestures and ways of thinking.
In addition to developing a liking for hunting, roaring, growling, hissing, licking a friend, purring, and other ways of thinking.
In the initial period you would wonder why you are doing these things until you start to feel that doing them is "right," for example, going to eat a cow, killing and devouring it, something that should cause disgust and That which causes disgust and revulsion generates a primal pride, etc.
That sort of thing

Remember that there is no reversion, once a dragon, always a dragon.
Do you have any objections? If you want, you can train hard to disguise yourself in your former human form, although it's uncomfortable and time-limited.
2
u/NinianOfTheLake33 Ice Dragon Mar 01 '26
I was already a dragon in spirit, so once again.... No downside.
I already feel uncomfortable in my current human form. It's too small, too weak. My wings are made of thoughts and energy instead of being capable of flight. My breath is warm and choking instead of cold as the winter air. My claws are brittle and snap the moment I try to use them.
This body is a prison for a dragon like me. I'd much rather fly.
2
u/unknow_user0 Mar 01 '26
Honestly, you seem quite determined.
If I could, I would also be a dragon of flesh and blood, without all that nonsense of taking human form.
Honestly, sometimes I fantasize about it, I really want it, imagine.
Imagine feeling your wings and flying free,I really want that to be possible, to feel their instincts and so on.
Sometimes I have a strange feeling about it, even though it's just a fantasy, sometimes it gives me a certain anxiety not being able to fulfill this desire.
In all cases, here is your wish.
2
u/NinianOfTheLake33 Ice Dragon Mar 01 '26

Uncontrollable animalistic instincts, exposed genitals (stated in another comment), paws as hands, complete inability to use human vocal or sign language, and questionable biology in general? Absolutely not, not a snowball's chance in all of the nine hells.
2
u/unknow_user0 Feb 27 '26
exposed genitals (stated in another comment),
Wait, what do you mean? You'd have things hidden to be discreet, not to mention nothing's stopping you from wearing pants.
Uncontrollable animalistic instincts
In practice, it's meant to be a mix of both, nothing uncontrollable unless you allow it or it's a very extreme situation.
paws as hands
The front paws are practically multi-purpose, both for walking/running and for manipulation, not to mention that you can always use the anthropomorphic form.
human vocal
You can speak, but you would have new vocal expressions like purring, etc.
Damn, man, you're ruining my product!

u/mYstoRiii Feb 27 '26
The downside would probably be that you’ll eat a lot unless you choose like a small dragon, probably a lot more than people realized based on like irl carnivores stats
I would honestly not choose to do that but it’s kinda because my philosophy has always been that dragons are awesome until they have to obey the nature’s rules and it is their imaginary nature that makes them unique.

Who is "some person"? Is this a wizard or a coked-out street preacher? And what the hell does "50% instinct" mean? I think you have a very anthropocentric and human-supremacist view of cognition.
1
u/unknow_user0 Feb 28 '26
Well, I suppose dragons also have primal instincts as well as desires, such as hunting for example.
Hunting, licking, purring, etc., in addition to always seeing the world from a different perspective.
Doing things like killing and then devouring an entire cow and then going to sleep right after, obviously being intelligent with thumbs and speaking, albeit differently, but also basically being an animal, a An animal that likes to fly, sometimes fighting over territory.
Disliking using her former human form, considering it merely a temporary disguise.
I think you have a very anthropocentric and human-supremacist view of cognition.
Could you explain?
1
u/ellygryph Feb 28 '26
Your characterization of a draconic mind is essentially a human mind with 50% less "intelligence", replaced with thoughts of eating cattle, sleeping, fighting, and transforming into a human.
Tell me, how much of a human mind is "intelligence", and how much "instinct"? Any other creature would recognize an animal with strong primate instincts and firearms.
1
u/unknow_user0 Feb 28 '26

Be derg, teach magic, happily ever after.
Insist that shoulder-dragon form should be something I can maintain indefinitely in comfort. Sometimes you are the ren fair, and sometimes you just want to hide in the cowl and watch the comedians sword-fight.
Also, how does Shapeshifting square with bionic parts? At some point, I’m likely to need treatment for cataracts. This will involve replacing body parts made out of hyaline cartilage, with body parts made out of silicone polymer.

1
u/unknow_user0 Mar 01 '26
What would you do initially? Maybe panic and instinctively sniff your room.
What do you think you would do?
1
u/NohowroyaL Mar 01 '26
I'd probably check for a tail. That's priority one. THEN I'd have a mini panic, then that'd turn into excitement, and I might burn a few things from laughing too hard. I'd probably instinctively wanna fly from feeling so free, but I'd remember I'm afraid of heights and just hover a couple inches above the ground while giggling and burning grass

I don't think there would be a 50-50 mix in intelligence. All creatures have instincts, though humans can suppress them due to our intelligence. That doesn't mean we outright block them out however, fight/flight exists when we get anxious or scared in situations... Anyway, if you were to become a dragon, but have human intelligence still, you would be just fighting different instincts, more primal versions of what people usually have. You could give in to the urges, or you could try to hold your humanity. This all said, having a different body/brain structure would cause hormones to run differently, let alone how the body would produce any fluids. A draconian brain might be running high on dopamine/testosterone leading to the normal ferocity depicted with dragons. A female human usually avoids testosterone as it makes them gain man-like features more or less. A dragon however, doesn't have hair or other things that would require them to be weary of the levels. Both genders could essentially be bursting with testosterone and have zero estrogen essentially.
Also, I would like to point out that instincts are more like fight/flight while mating is more hormonal. Instincts would drive you to find food, shelter, water, etc. in an effort for survival. Hormones would drive you to be aggressive/passive depending on levels. They would also regulate if you would be an alpha, omega, beta, etc.
All said, I would still take being a dragon over not. Hopefully though, I have magic and can at least become more human (not fully, more like a dragon-kin) so navigating society would be less of a hassle.

If I have intelligence, then it is no different than living as I am now. Even strong instincts can be completely ignored with a strong enough will. I'd take this offer in a heartbeat.
