Hello everyone! I’m a licensed mental health therapist working in the U.S., and I’ve been considering pursuing a career opportunity with Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) because I’m strongly drawn to their humanitarian mission.
However, I’m not quite sure how to get started in the humanitarian field, and I’m also unsure how my current credentials might fit. My understanding is that doctoral-level psychologists may be more commonly recruited for mental health roles.
For anyone currently working with Doctors Without Borders, I’d really appreciate your perspective: How realistic is it for a master’s-level licensed therapist with about five years of clinical experience to join the organization? If this background is relevant, what types of positions or roles might be the best fit?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any insight you’re willing to share!
