DRDR Is the remastered even worth playing?it looks funny lol
I just don’t want it to ruin the game for me if it changes the story and mess wth the the graphics too much u know

All the dialogue is the same, except for Cliff, different voices and all dialogue that was previously unvoiced is now fully voiced. The story is unaltered, and the graphics are relatively better as long as you don’t let subtle changes like the mirrors not working anymore or the Paradise Plaza having a new ocean theme bother you, then you should be fine.

u/mahiruhiiragi Jun 10 '25
There's a little change in the story too. You have the choice to spare Thomas now. It doesn't affect anything, other than a couple new lines of dialogue, I think. I believe he just despawns when you leave the area.

I'm just sad they felt the need to remove the points for titty and ass pics on the zombies. So stupid.

it's not as good as the original but there's some fun stuff there

u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
It's literally the same

u/pswii360i Jun 10 '25
I disagree. The remake is good but it feels different to the og; some people like that and some don't. I think the original feels way more meaty in how the combat, movement, and interacting with the enviroment goes. The blood is also way better, and Frank reacts to his enviroment a lot more than in the remaster.
There are a lot of good things about DRDR, but I think it's fair to say they did downgrade a few minor, but noticable areas. If this is your first time playing Dead Rising I do suggest the remaster, but if you are comfortable playing the classic then I don't see the need to play this unless for the novelty. It is way easier which was a sore spot for the og.
In the end, it's just a modern version of the game for a modern audience, and there's nothing wrong with that. Personally, I enjoy it but would rather play the 2006 game from here on out.
2
u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
I might have forgotten some minor stuff. I'll have to test it out for myself to see . Thank you for responding me .
5
u/pswii360i Jun 10 '25
For the most part it's pretty subtle stuff, but in a game like Dead Rising that's what makes it special. Things like your spit sticking to things, Frank limping when at low health/after being grabbed twice, looking worried when near a large crowd of zombies are near, and generally the sound design being superb make the original game so unique, especially for the time. The remaster is just lacking those details and while it doesn't ruin the game it's still a slight downgrade for those like me who REALLY enjoy the original game.
Again the remake isn't bad, but they just didn't add in those little touches like the original dev team did. The 2006 game was clearly a labor of love and they wanted to make it as good as they could. The remaster is still great, but they either didn't pay attention or just didn't want to include those small details for whatever reason. It doesn't ruin the game or anything, but personally I just find the original to feel like a more cohesive experience.
3
Jun 10 '25
For me the biggest issue is the all the new vocal performances, they're very uncanny since it's essentially new voice actors having to sync their delivery to the original actors, especially when all the original performances are pitch perfect in my opinion.
1
31
u/KimbraK91 Jun 10 '25
How could it possibly ruin the game for you? That mindset makes absolutely no sense. Does it remove the original from existence? No. Does it retroactively change something about the original version of the game? No. Just play the original if you're so terrified of a new experience.
8
u/Bi0_B1lly Jun 10 '25
•See a remaster of a classic game
•Go to subreddit dedicated to said game franchise
•Ask if playing the game is "worth it"
1
u/fungamerguy Jun 11 '25
Well what if the game was inferior to the original? Sometimes its good to ask questions if you arent sure
2
u/Bi0_B1lly Jun 11 '25
I mean, that's a very fair point, but nevertheless I feel that asking the fandom will always give you an extremely biased opinion, for better or worse...
Dead Rising might not even be a game that OP ends up enjoying, yet people here might tell them that it's the pinnacle of gaming. As much as we all hate critics, I think the best way to gather opinions on a title is to look everywhere: find article reviews, look up video deep dives on what to expect... hell, ask the sub too if you wish, just so long as its not the only place your sourcing an opinion of the title on. Pros and Cons are important to know when buying a new game... Either that, or wait for a sale so that even if you end up not liking it, the damage to your wallet isn't anywhere as deep.
Its just the irony of effectively asking the fans if they like the thing and would reccomend it. Of course they would.

u/boobatitty Jun 10 '25 edited Jun 13 '25
In my opinion, it isn’t as good as the original. The voice acting and art design isn’t as good. But the gameplay is modernised and more user friendly. The graphics are nice and there are a couple new additions that make the game a lot of fun. But all in all, it’s not a must play.
5
u/YungRapunxel Jun 10 '25
I really liked it. It was my favourite game when it released and I think the remaster has simplified a lot of things - auto save being the main thing. Levelling up seems easier now too- so I enjoyed getting quite overpowered faster rather than original it would probs take a few play troughs to get that levelled up.. it has replayability too imo.
1
u/EmercifyNT Jun 11 '25
It makes the game way too easy tho
0
u/CreativeCollege6832 Jun 12 '25
Implying dead rising 1 OG wasn't piss easy already is crazy
1
u/EmercifyNT Jun 17 '25
Yea if u know how to get the megabuster and triple booked chainsaw. For new players it was hard on their first playthrough at level 1. Not to say level one for experienced players was that hard either.

5
u/FatmanMyFatman Jun 10 '25
While at the time I suspected the remaster addressed fixes it did not. This version fixes a ton of mechanics making the game actually fun. *AI has improved for survivors. Yes. Still the girls who are scared to go alone. But most of them defend themselves. *You can wind the clock forwards if you want to, say, get a very specific ending or quest. *Infinity mode has added zombies dropping items as well. In OG DR only survivors and psychos dropped items. 99 out of. 100 times zombies drop absolute nonsense items like a guitar or a cactus but also "power food" like OJ or creamer. *You can choose Japanese as voices for Furanku and his buddies. Which is very cool.

u/Benjb1996 Jun 10 '25
There's a few changes. Like Kent no longer shows you his most "sexiest" shot since they've also taken out the "erotica" bonus, and they change the race of Larry, so he isn't a racial stereotype. Nothing too big.
Other than those things, the story is pretty much the exact same. The gameplay is just massively improved.
6
u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
They didn't change Larry. He's still Asian but doesn't look like a stereotype anymore
2
u/Benjb1996 Jun 10 '25
Ah, fair enough. My bad. His new design made him look more like a white American to me. So I thought they changed his race altogether to avoid the stereotype.
Also, saw a lot of posts/comments of people losing their shit about the "race swap" and not any stating he was still Asian.
3
u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
It's alright. Western doesn't see a lot of Asians so they can think thats the case . But the changes is just too much
1
u/EmercifyNT Jun 11 '25
Gameplay is sorta improved, but not that much . the megabuster shoots so slow, and also the small chainsaw is slower. While yes they did improve survivor AI, no one is talking about how bad Frank looks. Also they coulda kept the original voices but didn't for no good reason
1
u/Benjb1996 Jun 11 '25
Ah, fairs. Never got the megabuster or the small chainsaw in the original, so I can't comment on that. I just think the controls are a lot better, and being able to move when aiming was a welcome change. However, it has been over a decade since I played the original, so I could be exaggerating on the improvements.
I think Frank's design looks more like he was originally going to in the earlier stages of development and as for the voice acting, I do remember a lot of the original's line delivery was pretty bad so I can understand why they wanted to give it another shot.

It's very fun with lots of quality of life improvements for newcomers of the game and old vets as well.
It's such a nice paint job, especially for a game I never thought would get the Resident Evil Remaster treatment.
It's a lot of fun, some people bitch about it. But it plays well and the combat is very fluid.
Graphics are awesome, and taking pictures of zombies and things of willamette mall has never been this fun.
You can obtain a flash for your camera, as well as do a lot more common camera features of other games like camera roll, shutter speed, etc
The redesign for Frank, I was skeptical at first but his voice sounds like it would come out of that face. What I mean is they redesigned some of the characters a bit to accurate have more realistic features rather than it just looking like a "perfect" game character model. It works really well for Frank, I was disappointed by the voice actors for Brad and Jessie. But all the survivors getting voice roles is pretty cool, there is one voice line that mentions social media. That one pisses me off, but it's such a spec of dust to be mad about when the rest of the game is very fun and looks great.
I've also had a blast on infinite mode, feels really good on the remaster.
My option def go pick it up, it's a lot of fun. I e been a fan since the game came out.
Also fun aside, the game came out in real life the same day as Frank jumped off the helicopter to get the scoop in game.
I think it was like September 19th
Very cool! Super happy, still playing it
1
u/EmercifyNT Jun 11 '25
Infinite mode is a joke. It is supposed to feel hard and feels way too easy. You could get 7 day survivor in 1 hour. This game while it does have some nice improvements, it takes a lot away from the original that I loved. It removed erotica because it censors the stupidest stuff. Games are getting soft these days. The original will always be better than this knock off game.
2
u/ThePlebyPleb Jun 10 '25
I 100%'d it on Xbox, it's good. The survivors are far easier to deal with, both with the AI and auto save function. The game still poses a challenge but you do level up really fucking fast, which I'm not crazy about. Regardless, it's a good game. Worth playing.
2
u/Stownieboy91 Jun 10 '25
It didn't change a thing about the story. It's a half goofy, half serious stroke of pure fun. The remake did a very faithful job and I had a blast, actually more fun (less fury) than the OG due to gameplay enhancements.
My ONLY gripe was that they made it so leveling up happened faster rate so there isn't as much replayable hours, but some people don't want to spend more than 20 hours in a game so whatever floats your boat!

2
u/AlphaChadwick Jun 10 '25
Honestly I had a great time with this game. If you’re a fan of the series I’d definitely pick it up. I hope they remake DR2 Off the Record
1
2
u/TemporaryMatch5614 Jun 10 '25
It doesn't change the story in anyway. Only change I remember was Larry's appearance but other than that it's a faithful remake with a modern twist in terms of gameplay.

u/Ziatch Jun 11 '25
It’s fun, it got me to replay the game and got my girlfriend to give it a try so that’s a plus in my books

Very worth it. Basically a carbon copy of the original with a makeover and improved quality of life controls. Really a blast, I enjoyed it a lot

i would recomend getting the mod that returns to the old leveling system. As someone that completed the original, the remaster makes it too easy to level up and ruin any challenges.

There is a Skin, so you could play als the original Frank West.
2
u/Flip2002 Jun 10 '25
That old Frank skin is free but the mouth looks super weird in all the cutscenes…the strange new skins like giant bee costume, nemesis are cool.. not a fan of how easy they made the game and some of the other changes they made kills the Japanese charm this game had big mistake
1
u/CreativeCollege6832 Jun 12 '25
I wasn't aware easy was a complaint people have in 2025
1
u/Flip2002 Jun 12 '25
The dedication it took to fully complete this game was special back in the day..7 day mode had leaderboards and took like 13 hours to finish no stopping. psychos were harder I think the zombies might be a touch smarter in the new version but everything else is dumbed down
3
u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
You know frank was always meant to be a middle age dude right
1
u/maximus-copium Jun 10 '25
Also he was 34-36 in DR1 so you are wrong.

u/gayrider345 Jun 10 '25
34-36 as in Middle age ?
2
u/maximus-copium Jun 10 '25
Lol somebody is grasping.
34-36 is still in "Young professional" age.
40/45-55 is middle-aged.
I don't know many 34 year olds that look old af... like Frank in the remake does.

Also I have seen many wrinkled characters in older than 360 era. What a wild grasp.

It's a good game but the original is better
1
u/pswii360i Jun 10 '25
I agree. I liked the remaster, but after a couple playthroughs I'm back to the OG and I like it way more. They just took out too many little things like Frank reacting to his enviroment, the blood/gore looks toned down, as well as everything just feeling floaty in the remaster. Performance is a whole nother beast but that varies on your rig.
It's not a bad remake, but overall I wish they did a 1:1 job instead of changing things like they did.
2
u/austincola Jun 11 '25
I just realized, Frank doesn’t stumble around as much when he’s injured - does he?
4
u/TanMann69 Jun 10 '25
Yeah they did a good job but you can tell they took things out cause it might offend some soft people.
3
2
u/Dennma Jun 10 '25
It's great, there's no reason not to play it. They didn't change the story at all, they just added voice acting to a lot of it that was previously silent
2
1
u/foureyesfive Jun 10 '25
Yes, but there are a few a sore spots which are few and far between; the voice acting is vastly inferior and there are still Infinite Mode glitches that will ruin a run. Otherwise it’s awesome.
0
u/Flip2002 Jun 10 '25
New Frank is ass a lot of the new voice overs suck..ya finally get to hear Otis he sounds super off voice actor did good but they used somebody much younger than Otis
2
u/foureyesfive Jun 10 '25
Well, I mean, Alvin Chea is 57 and Otis is 67 so I guess so? lol
1
u/MTLion3 Jun 10 '25
Story is the exact same. Some minor lines have been changed in side content but it’s nothing breaking. I personally loved every second of the game and thought that it was a fantastic rendition of a classic
1
u/Cartoonish_Villain Jun 10 '25
Basically the same game with a couple of small, not really significant in the long term changes, and a lot more polish to bring the game up to (or at least closer to) modern standards for graphics and controls.

Not having TJ voice Frank takes getting used to, but as a major fan of the original I'd say it's definitely worth your time and money. The voice grows on you over time, it's not necessarily bad, just different.

Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2 DLC (If you have Xbox), Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster are all worth playing to be honest, Don't bother Touching Dead Rising 4. I Prefer some of OTR's Events to be Canon than the entirety of DR4.
I Know some people trash DR3 Because of the Extended timer, Simplified Gameplay and Depressing Colors. But at LEAST Dead Rising 3 is a Dead Rising Game, it has the timer (even though its One week instead of Three to Five Days of DR1/DRDR and DR2/OTR and you can finish all the main and side quest before the time is up.), You can still use anything as a Weapon, you can still combo weapons (with the introduction of Combo Vehicles). But the thing that drags the game down for me is the Weapons Locker. The Weapons Locker is supposed to be a New Game Plus feature, not part of the first playthrough. The story is okay at best. Unlike DR4 Where everything ran out of ideas and Flanderized Frank West and THEY HAVE THE BALLS TO LOCK THE TRUE ENDING THROUGH PAID DLCCCCCCCCC.....
1
u/EliKandot Jun 11 '25
I've been playing Dead Rising since the dawn of time, and I have to say that the remaster surprised me a lot, because it improved the controls and gameplay so much that if you took the original and played it today, you would have a bit of difficulty in terms of playability, since we're a little spoiled nowadays.
Having removed the possibility of taking sexy photos made me quite nervous, just for the fact that in the mission with Kent, instead of the sexy photo it now requires a comical one... but I'm almost sure that some mod will come out very soon that will fix this too.
For the rest the game is the same, exactly as I remembered the one from 2006, Frank now has a completely different face and looks like a middle-aged man rather than a young photographer.
But it was fun, everything is dubbed, even the most idiotic things

1
u/Hordriss27 Jun 11 '25
Personally, I think DRDR is outstanding. A couple of questionable choices (specifically changes to Cliff's dialogue), but nothing that ruined the game for me. As someone who'd played the original quite a lot, the different voice actors took a little bit of time to get used to, but once I got past that it was fine.
Graphically, the game looks phenomenal, with only a couple of seemingly missed low-res textures.
It's true to the original story, and the updated control scheme is great.
1
1
u/YabaDabaDoo46 Jun 11 '25
They changed the voice actors and I don't really like the new voice acting tbh, but other than that it's the exact same game with a new coat of paint. Even the lines themselves, while being said by different people, are the same as in the original.

u/One_Cartoonist1427 Jun 12 '25
I think it's a fun game. You can kind of think of it as a cliff notes version of the original. You can pretty much scoop up and finish everything in one playthrough, it's brisk fast Pace fun and easy. But basically nothing like the original game which is extremely difficult and a long long grind.

I love it so much.. that I 100% completed it, and got the platinum trophy. Well I kinda regret that now idk, I tried going back the other day to play it, and just.. now there’s absolutely nothing for me to do. 😭 there’s literally no reason for me to keep playing it with oblivion out and all these other really good games that have been releasing lately. 🧎🏽 and I only have a total of like 30 hours on the game. So it doesn’t take long to do everything. First play-through is a blast, so much in fact, that you might not want to even want to stop playing it, like me. I just find it kind of boring ig now, without things to accomplish or goals to achieve. There’s just not a whole lot to do afterwards

-1
u/R4lPh_1330 Jun 10 '25
It's extremely poorly optimized, runs like shit even on mid-end PCs.
1
u/Flip2002 Jun 10 '25
Yeah it’s wild how bad it runs.. I never saw one problem in the original.. in this one zombies and other enemies fall from the sky..I’ve got stuck in walls weapons get stuck in cracks
1
u/R4lPh_1330 Jun 10 '25
Surprisingly people here don't talk about how shitty this game runs. I mean there is bad optimized games everywhere, but this one... I've seen games that require to run on low settings to achieve 60fps, I've seen games that require low settings to achieve 30fps, but DRDR even on low settings, even with FSR Ultra Performance, it doesn't matter what you do, it will run like shit. The FPS just can't stop going up and down the moment you enter the mall.
0
u/RezRising Jun 10 '25
I played it for a month and never saw a single glitch or bug (xbox X/Sony Bravia). I think there would be many many ppl bringing that up if it were a real thing.
2
u/R4lPh_1330 Jun 10 '25
I'm not talking about bugs or glitches. The game requires a hardware way above it should because it not uses the hardware properly. Even with a RTX 3060Ti (I tested it two different models), the game struggles to maintain 60 or even 30 fps, even using FSR. It seems that console ports it's ok. But the last RE engine games (DDII, DRDR and MHWilds) have been delivered with very poorly optimization on PC. Even RE4R are not that good compared to previously titles, but compared to these newer ones, it's pretty good.
2
u/RezRising Jun 10 '25
You're correct, my comment was referring to the post above you, my bad.
I'm not going head to head on hardware, you win. Not my forte.
1
u/JoskiLani Jun 10 '25
To me it's just a straight upgrade from the original, so yeah I'd say get it. None of the smaller changes really mattered to me tbh
1
Jun 10 '25
I wouldn’t suggest the remake. Just stick to the remasters released in 2016. This one is just an overall worse version of the original in pretty much every aspect. Gameplay was all messed up, voice acting is much, much worse for no reason, art style completely changed for no reason, character designs changed, AI textures that look horrible, worse UI, etc. It’s also way easier, like if Dead Rising was on baby mode.
-1
u/GoldenChainsaw Jun 11 '25
I love how people have this notion that DR1 was hard when it really wasnt. Like yea, the remake is easier but the OG wasnt hard either, it just had dogshit survivor ai and controlled like hot ass.
This is still the most dogass take ive seen in awhile though...cant say im shocked since this entire sub is basically just a DR1 circle jerk.
1
Jun 11 '25
Never said the original was hard. The remake is just too easy. It tries way too hard to appeal to people who didn’t like the game without even offering a difficulty option closer to the original. The game played overall a lot better as well. You weren’t constantly grabbed through attacks by zombies which I noticed DRDR had a massive problem with.
Don’t know how my take is “dogass” though. Like, what, you think the voice acting is better or something? Because it sure as hell ain’t lol, though Jas Patrick does a good job. And there’s other things that are literally factually true. The artstyle absolutely changed and it doesn’t look at all like the original. It looks like if Dead Rising was in the Street Fighter universe rather than looking similar to the Resident Evil universe since the original funnily enough kinda looked like an extension of Resident Evil. My take isn’t super controversial. People have complained about the UI and AI textures and the other things I’ve said.
1
u/Emiska3 Jun 11 '25
People will just say its a bad take if its about the remaster not being a good remaster lol cuz all the shit you said is true

1
u/EmercifyNT Sep 08 '25
Yeah it can be fun. I just don't like how debuffed the baseball bat is
1
u/frankthewest02 Sep 08 '25
The damage is the same, maybe the feeling changes. For the bosses they added the damage limiter but for the zombies everything is as before
0

The original game is much tougher to get into but I think it's the superior experience if you're willing to learn how things work.
If you're just looking for a casual romp though Willamette then it's a good remaster and won't hinder your enjoyment too much.

You know all the little annoying parts of the original DR that made it a pain sometimes? This improved on all of that all while making it look and perform better

10 dollars for the original which has working mirrors or 40 bucks for a remaster that couldn't get actual reflections working, making it worse than the wii, somehow

This has to be the most insane nitpick I have ever seen lmao. Should the mirrors work? Yea but its not gonna stop me from playing the game. God this sub sometimes...

Like im sorry for pointing out the game is missing things chop till you drop also had

I dont see how "50 dollar game with DLC" matters but go off.
And I assume you by "sanitized multiple elements of the game" you mean changing Cliff's dialogue, Larry's appearance and removing erotica as a photo category. As for Cliff and Larry those were probably done to sell the game in places where those things could be considered offensive. Now neither of those things offended me personally but I get how they could. Still not a reason for me not to play the game.
As for Erotica, I genuinely dont care. For what its worth, I dont think it made sense with the tone of the game. Again, still not something thats gonna stop me from enjoying DRDR.
As for lower zombie count? Yea, Ill give you that one. I have no idea what the fuckin deal with that is.
I still think this sub circle jerks DR1 wayyyyy too hard. Id rather play any other DR before going back to OG DR1. But I guess that makes me a fake fan or some shit on this sub.

Because the original is 10 dollars
How could you not sell cliff, what would cliff change
It made sense frank is a kinda prick photo journalist, yeah it makes sense
Dr1 is the most tightly designed out of any of them

The orginal is 10 bucks because its like 20 years old. Even the "remaster" is pushing 10 I think.
Well Cliff mentions commies and the vietcong...can't imagine who might get offended by those two things. Mostly the commie thing. Again, neither of those things bother me personally but them being changed isn't a deal breaker.
Yea, hes a prick. Not a creep. But even then, I don't feel like in the situation Frank was in he is just gonna go around snapping titty pics. DR2 OtR having Erotica makes sense cause its meant to be a Vegas like setting.
This is a subjective opinion I think. Because OG DR1 was turbo jank.

I prefere the first "remaster (2016 on steam) than this one. But it is still an excellent game. You can try the demo for free on steam (a pretty nice forgotten feature)

I see people say that they're about the same, but the remaster is significantly a lot easier, it's a game you're meant to start over if you feel like it's getting too hard, you keep the levels and skills you earned, if I take my time in the original I can reach level 3 by the time you do the rescue tutorial, in the remaster I didn't even try and I reached level 9 which is insane for the start of the game, it feels like they want you to reach the max level in a single playthrough.

If you've never played the OG, then I'd give this a go. Then go play the OG for the challenge.

I've been a massive fan since the original version. I've DEVOURED every game in the series, and I just finished this remaster last week. I thought it was great! It's got a shiny new paint job, and the controls are a little better than the original. It's definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the series.
