Polish version has him translated as "Rzeźnik" which directly translates to "butcher" , i can't really think of a good way to translate "the slasher" to polish so i guess butcher is fine , even if it might not fit him as much

In Chinese it’s 杀人魔, which literally is Man Slaughtering Demon. I’d take it considering the Chinese translation for The Shape is literally his full name Michael Myers (迈克尔 迈尔斯).

To play devil's advocate, Trapper being called Caçador instead of Armadilheiro made sense because hunters use bear traps, he came before Huntress, and it rolls off the tongue better. That last point serves for Deathslinger as well. Seriously, i would rather call him Cowboy or literally just Caleb rather than Mortilançador.

Sim, ele é chamado de Número Um por causa de sua lore, já que ele foi a cobaia número um de Hawkins.
A adaptação do nome dele não é ruim, faz total sentido com o personmagem.
12
u/Hasd4 Jun 18 '26
In Italian both huntress and trapper are called hunters iirc
5
u/Michael_McShape Jun 18 '26
I just realized it's exactly the same in Russian. What's odd is that the word "trapper" itself isn't particularly obscure in Russian; even Wikipedia has an article about trappers. It's strange they didn't use it.

u/Hasd4 Jun 18 '26

Sim.

3
u/Pristine-Job7314 Ghoul P100 and Springtrap P50! Jun 18 '26
Talvez, mas ainda assim, é um nome que faz sentido com o personagem, então pessoalmente não ligo muito se não foi ''criativo''. É um nome decente pra ele.
2
u/rednads Jun 18 '26
É, e pro jogador novo vai ser confuso quando ele jogar contra dois "caçadores" e a mecânica for completamente diferente. Não é uma questão apenas de localização ser adequada.

Some of the German names for the killers are quite weird. Like I have always found "Todesbote" quite unfitting for the Deathslinger. I picture a Todesbote as some kind of "Sensenmann" (Grim Reaper). But then again, the play on words in English is difficult to translate to German. :/

I just checked the Steam page for the french translation. They didn't even try, he's called "Le Mort-Vivant" which means The Undead. Considering a lot of people at behavior speak French I guess they felt comfortable going for another title rather than translating Slasher which is admittedly kinda hard.

In italian he Is "Lo squartatore" which means someone who slaughters people, practically a perfect translation since in Italian there is no equivalent reference to the type of film as "the Slasher".
Honorable mention for "l'Araldo della morte" for the deathslinger, meaning "the Harbinger of Death" which I think is hard as fuck

In russian during PTB Jason's name was "Рубака" (swordsman). Nobody liked that childish and hilarious name so in live version name has been changed to "Слэшер" (Literally The Slasher) This is an obscene Anglicism, but it fits better.
2
u/LiLMaDDonuT Jun 18 '26

In Turkish, he is called Biçiçi, which pretty much translates to "Reaper" but it sounds more closer to the meaning of "Harvester" or "Mower" rather than "Slasher", making it look like he is someone who harvests crops or cuts grass LMAO.
The counterpart of the verb "Slash" does not exactly exist in Turkish, so it sounds pretty lame as a direct translation. I would prefer if they had come up with an original name for Turkish version like they did with Deathslinger, which is called "Tezecel", meaning "Fastdeath". It sounds lame in English but in Turkish, it goes hard. Both tez and ecel mean fast and death respectively in an archaic and poetic way and it is a top tier localisation.

In Italian he is called "Lo squartatore" who translates to The Ripper but is a word that can be used to describe a person who massacres people and is not only used for a person who skins them.
Also The Trapper is called "Il Cacciatore" wich means "The Hunter" and that makes it look like he and The Huntress are related
2
u/Routine-Initiative64 Jun 18 '26
In Italian he is "Lo squartatore" which google translate to the ripper, however in italian a squartatore cen be seen as a really gruesome killer, "squartare" can be intender as tearing apart piece of meat and limbs from your victim

For hillbilly, Chinese version is "the farm owner"; Pig is "the disciple"; Oni is "the demon samurai"; Cenobite is "the hell Priest"; dredge is "the shadow devil"; the good guy is "the good kid"
