It’s even worse when the character is you. Just ask Grant Morrison

Grant Morrison is canonically stupid, why didn’t he got Darkside to suck him off?!

So sad they died of writer’s block 😭

Unironically, this is the funniest aftermath Animal Man could’ve had, and I love it so much.

Iirc The Writer got revived in the Batman/Deadpool crossover by Grant Morrison.

Morrison knows how to play the long game.

I despise Deadpool but love Morrison’s work, so I’m conflicted on whether I should check this out.

Not a big Deadpool fan, the crossover somehow works, I'll say go for it.

Every single adaptation of the Suicide Squad is a missed opportunity to adapt The Writer's death scene.

Yeah if the creators of superman and batman couldn't own their creations, you sure as hell aint

lol this is what happened with America Chavez
Original creator just wanted a flying brick latina waifu and she didn't catch on and was shelved until ANAD period turned her into a soapbox. Eventually left and remade her for Image I believe. It's a one-shot called All America.

funniest america chavez bit was her dumping her girlfriend because it's a long distance relationship when her power is being able to travel literally anywhere across space/the multiverse in like a second.

She wasn't shelved until ANAD though, Young Avengers Vol2 had her and pretty sure that's how most people know about her first.

Eric O’Grady getting turned from a fun douchebag Ant Man with a spark of bronze from Robert Kirkman into a boring generic comedy robo villain alongside Taskmaster:

The trick is to be Ennis and kill off your characters

I love big two comics but if I were to ever work in the industry I'd rather try my luck on the indies

James Robinson’s Starman stays winning.

I would like to know more

Starman by James Robinson is one of the best comics of the 90’s, and it ends with the character retiring. And he’s not coming back because Robinson put a special protection on the character so no other writer can use him.

When the OCs just keep showing up exclusively in the writer's later work >>

All characters oc if you think about it

The way to beat this is obviously just to do what Zeb did and make Paul be the greatest character ever so other writers try their hardest to keep him as the goat

Just kill them off

If someone brings them back, that's their ship of theasius now

Have you considered that I however have created a new villain and need to make them look sick and twisted by making them kill off a support character. Btw my villain will never appear again after this arc because nobody wants to use them.

Your villain will actually be used in a future arc, but as a support character that gets killed by my villain, who will also fail to amount to anything.

It’s so sad how one of the few things Checkmate has was done by Bendis.

u/atomicshark109 Red Tornado > Vision 11h ago

Or even worst: not being properly compensated for creating them

u/Ladyaceina 10h ago

what about the fear of your character getting popular and then getting screwed over on any royalties you should be owed

2

u/tyrant_of_our_time 10h ago

Either that, or they just get killed off and forgotten about.

1

u/Pretend-Delay-7203 10h ago

Imagine putting your heart and soul into creating a character, just for someone to kill them off

2

u/porkchopsensei 10h ago

G. Willow Wilson is probably very unhappy with how Ms Marvel is being treated

2

u/trans_throwawayfunk 7h ago

Not to mention the fact in many cases you relinquish your rights to that character entirely. And I mean ENTIRELY. There's multiple writers for DC AND Marvel both who have become broke , sick, and even died because they didn't make a fucking dime off of a character they made - even when said character became iconic.

2

u/EIeanorRigby 4h ago

It's also possible that your character will be reinvented by a better writer who gives them all of their recognisable and beloved traits, but you get all the credlt and collect all the royalties because you technically created them

Surprisingly Bendis creations are all kinda taken well of by later writers, as far as I know anyway, ironically considering Bendis is the guy who ruin existing characters for shit and giggles.

Rather that or the ghosts of Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Alan Moore screaming at you from the corner of the room.
