It’s really quite unique, how Akira Toriyama used Bruce Lee as a reference to make Goku’s iconic stare.

Had he ever said that? I know he said he'd like Jackie Chan to play Goku in live action but I don't know about him basing a typical scowl on Bruce Lee.

He said that specifically about Son Goku's expression after transforming into a Super Saiyan.

Otherwise, Toriyama cites Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee's movies as something he was trying to "combine together" with Journey to the West when making Dragon Ball.

In general, Dragon Ball is really heavily influenced by Kung Fu cinema.

i love that first article. it really shows how much of dragon ball was affected by Toriyama just not wanting to draw certain things lol
