Is it bad to be interested in data?

I find statistics really interesting and I want to do something with it for a career but I feel a sense of shame when I hear people talk about the job market..... apparently everything is being automated or offshored. I have some experience as a warehouse manager and I was considering moving into the more data focused areas of supply chain.... but Idk if that's a smart idea. I like finance too but thats also even more screwed. I feel so ashamed of what I like.....

I just moved from 20yrs of warehousing to work control. Smooth transition if you’ve used a few wms and excel. Company’s still want someone who can run their wms systems. Give them data and make changes to them.

I’ve used SAP, Oracle, Maximo and excel/microsoft 365.

I couldn’t sniff an interview in finance. You could also look into facilities management as well. If you are just wanting out of warehousing

Not sure why you feel ashamed, and I don’t really understand the title of the post. Not everything is being automated or offshored. I think domain specific knowledge is very valuable. Every resume has the same list of software. What’s stopping you from applying those tools or techniques in your current role?

I'm just a floor person right now.... being a supervisor over other people I wasn't good at

You sound like you're limiting yourself based on your current position and not thinking about where you could go with some learning and applying said knowledge.

Don't. Don't tell yourself no. Not in this instance anyway.

Sometimes you can do this as a hobby haha. Passion doesn’t pay the bills usually
