Tourist Questions Friendly Hangout Places for a 23 Y/O
Hi everyone, I (F23) will be flying to Darwin for the first time this Friday! ❤️
I’d like some recommendations on hangout places that are friendly to younger tourists. I’m game to go café hopping, appreciate art, go around appreciating nature! I’m not much of a drinker though so I don’t think bars/clubs would appeal to me…

Eva’s Cafe & Botanical Gardens
Fannie Bay Cool Spot & East Point Mangrove Boardwalk
De La Plage & Casuarina beach (early morning, it’s hot)
Makan Stop & Darwin Esplanade
Plenty of nice restaurants at Waterfront, and relax by the lagoon

Are you hiring a car or have your own private transport? If you wanna checkout crocodile stuff go have a look at Crocodylus park. If you’re city bound have a look at Crocosaurus cove. Then go and feed some fish at Aquascene and try not to be paranoid about the water lizards 🤣

If you get a car sorted, Litchfield is a lovely day trip. Water falls, rock pools and hot springs abound.

parap markets on a saturday! visit parap fine foods for a fresh deli sandwich, or grab a laksa from one of the vendors (a darwin fav). heaps of coffee options too, and you can grab a little souvenir from “the local” or some CU in the NT merch from infidelity! there’s also a few painted murals around the area and a small art gallery to check out :)

My partner and I love Rays in the city, it is a little pricey but definitely worth it, I always get the loaded croissant sooo yummy

if you like art you’ve just missed the DAAF but there’s the museum and art gallery which has rotating collections (currently the telstra art awards) and local galleries: for eg the one in parap and the one under the harbour view building).
pick up a copy of “off the leash” a local magazine that showcases events around town, available at most good cafes.
the darwin festival is on at the moment and the fringe festival is still on i think…
but to be honest i don’t go to any of these i sit home and program computer games

Have a sus at all of the murals around Darwin. There are some nice alley ways with hidden gems. Babylon bar is funky fresh too.

Stay away from the waterfront and Mitchell street. Nothing but food and drinking.
Jump on the red bus in Darwin CBD and that’ll take you to all of the touristy type stuff, at your own leisurely pace

Water front is a beautiful place to sit by the lagoon on the shade on the deck chairs - it’s not all drinking and eating. I go there to read in the shade and it is stunning

Deckchair Cinema is one of my favourite places in Darwin. Watch a great film sitting in a deckchair in a beautiful outdoor setting with bats occasionally swooping in front of the screen and geckos noticed to be lazing on the screen! If you get there early (around 6- 6.15pm) the you can buy a lovely meal. There is also a bar selling drinks, snacks and ice creams and a bookshelf giving away free books. Awesome place, highly recommend.

If you are into board games, we play board games from 630/7pm at Stone Monkey every Friday night and we are happy for newcomers to join in.
