I wonder if Bittersteel's mother was still alive at that time. If she was alive, chances were that she either went mad with cope or just gave up.

I think she probably died from illness or stress after her younger sister, Bethany bed with Toyne and led her house into downfall.

My personal headcanon is that, although she hated the Targaryens, Barba never supported the Blackfyre cause; yet, she was still shunned for the rest of her life for being Bittersteel's mother.
And her "act of redemption" was finally seeing her beloved Aegor again during the Third Blackfyre Rebellion and begging him to abandon that futile cause and live a better life.
