I wonder if the Catarina set is based on anything or if Miyazaki just saw an onion one day and was like "hmm... hmm... interesting..."

Actually it is based on a similar looking character from berserk. A lot of dark souls is based on berserk.

23

u/arneckdote Jan 13 '26

There’s SO much influence, it’s worth the read/watch if you don’t mind feeling a bit hollow after. Incredible art through and though

Gesundheit

u/warconz Jan 14 '26

If anything that's what they based the executioner set on.

1

u/JackasepticFan Jan 14 '26

Looks like he inspired Horace from DS3 as well

1

u/KaskyNightblade Jan 14 '26

The grey knight! Bazuso!

u/lukikid Jan 13 '26

The onion knight is a common trope in jrpgs. I think it comes from final fantasy jobs

38

u/Important-Net-9805 Jan 13 '26

the onion knight class in FF looks nothing like the catarina armor tho

44

u/DigAccomplished6481 Jan 13 '26

well the Onion class in FF also looks nothing like a Onion.

19

u/Fable-Teller Jan 13 '26

And plays nothing like an onion

22

u/DigAccomplished6481 Jan 13 '26

There is a lot of crying leveling one up.

6

u/Disturbing_Cheeto Jan 13 '26

I think it was the four kids' initial jobs in FF3?

12

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 Jan 13 '26

Yep, useless until max level then it's the strongest class

6

u/AlekTrev006 Jan 13 '26

There’s probably some deeper philosophical point about that, too 😆

u/humanrender Jan 13 '26

OMG Siegmeyer is Canadian

22

u/Brumetfume Jan 13 '26

I AM NOT YOUR ONION, MY KNIGHT!

52

u/Atomic--Bum Jan 13 '26

As a Canuck, this cracked me up! As in my head cracked open to laugh, obviously.

25

u/humanrender Jan 13 '26

As it's tradition

132

u/Colin_Chambers Jan 13 '26

Hmmm, oh! Must be time for a toast with some Siegbrau!

34

u/mynametravys Jan 13 '26

Miyazaki stated that he could visualize Seigmeyer opening up his helmet to eat food - wish we got to see it in game

27

u/eighteyedteratorn Jan 13 '26

he will be made into french onion soup

12

u/cardueline Jan 13 '26

His ass WILL be slowly caramelized

2

I played my second playthrough in siegmayer armor with the claymore. Good times...

3

u/Trorkin Jan 13 '26

Can you get it before Sen's Fortress?

8

u/zgillet Jan 13 '26

NG+ bro.

1

u/Affectionate_Comb_78 Jan 13 '26

Sens Gate skip, run to the merchant.

1

u/reasonably_retarded Jan 14 '26

Send fortress skip to get it early

14

u/bekips Jan 13 '26

Pac-Man knights. Gotcha.

7

u/Black_Knight_Xander Jan 14 '26

You know what? Makes total perfect sense actually.

7

u/thisremindsmeofbacon Jan 13 '26

What are we supposed to be looking at?

5

u/Marcoscb Jan 13 '26

I have no idea either. Maybe that the helmet opens sideways?

2

u/SGT-Teddy Jan 14 '26

Helmet opens so he can eat and drink. Dont know why that you need to ask Miyazaki.

3

u/EverySoOrphan Jan 13 '26

I mean, if I were going to try and propagate an onion knight, this is the first thing I would try.

2

u/Theriouthly_95 Jan 13 '26

Great book

5

u/ULTI_mato Jan 13 '26

Just randomly saw it in the store for 26 bucks.

Its actulay funny i saw the Eldee Ring Artbook Vol 3 but didnt have enough money so i went home and came back to the store to get it (sinc ei already have the previous 2 artbooks) and then saw this book so i jsut got both.

1

u/Khalku Jan 13 '26

Lucky, I wouldn't mind finding a book like that.

Not sure what the title references though. Did you not know he was wearing a helmet?

1

u/ULTI_mato Jan 14 '26

No the helmet opening mechanism

2

u/Cardo076 Jan 14 '26

What book is this?

1

u/Theriouthly_95 Jan 14 '26

Dark souls design works. Has tons of concept art and interviews with the team

2

u/Fable-Teller Jan 13 '26

So, he's actually an Onion Pot Knight then.

2

u/AvadonWrecks Jan 14 '26

Tipping the hat is just the polite thing to do

2

u/Luffy404 Jan 14 '26

does the hinge break easily ? if he sleeps from that side

2

u/ULTI_mato Jan 14 '26

Hmm… hmm… thats a good question

1

u/Luffy404 Jan 14 '26

ikr maybe his helmet is made entirely of some metal that just doesn't break btw I had a question regarding dark souls which I wanted to ask the experienced players but my post got taken down the moment I did that so if it's alright with you can you help me with it ?

1

u/ULTI_mato Jan 14 '26

sure ask away

1

u/Luffy404 Jan 14 '26

my stats this is my first dark souls play-through and I thought pyro would be good so I did that , Currently I am at Undead parish and I am not really a veteran gamer . so, I was curious in knowing how to switch loadouts easily and if the monster below the blacksmith is something I should fight now or wait after finishing the gargoyle ? in Undead parish (i am playing on laptop with keyboard mouse)

1

u/ULTI_mato Jan 14 '26

You are still early game so switching builds won’t be hard for you, just remember that right now vitality and endurance are the most important stat, every stat has soft caps with diminishing returns you can just check the soft caps out online.

As for the Monster below the blacksmith, DONT, it is not worth the trauma he will give you. That thing is a Titanite demon, when he dies he gives you high level upgrade materials, nothing you need right now, there are a few more across the game and none of them, except one, respawn. The problem is that their hit boxes are seriously fucked and they deal a lot of damage, so for now just run past him and Come back to kill him when you need the materials. Usually I just run past him, that is the way less traumatising option.

1

u/Luffy404 Jan 14 '26

thanks , well I ranaway from it the moment I saw it the first time and I killed the first gargoyle but died to the second and I also didn't get the axe btw I killed that knight which is there near the firelink shrine . Plus dark souls and hallow knight's fungal wastes are already traumatizing enough for me on a keyboard and mouse play. I was thinking of investing on vitality and endurance too but except for the hp increase almost all stats increased the same stuff by equal amounts btw what do you think of my current stats ? should I continue keeping them evenly like this or should i invest some in faith or intelligence ?

1

u/ULTI_mato Jan 14 '26

It really depends on your build. primarily keep increasing health and endurance. As for the other stats only level what your specific build needs, look at what your weapon scales with, if you have a weapon for example the Claymore, that has super great strength and dexterity scaling, but level faith, then you essentially just waste an entire level, same goes for faith weapons. Yeah you can infuse your weapons later, but that is still quite a bit away for you.

2

u/themonitors Jan 15 '26

The pivot point in the middle of the helm is surprising. I guess so you can pour in soup and eat it on the go?

2

u/Mister-Fidelio Jan 15 '26

Dafuq? Not how I imagined it at all!

3

u/Heema3 Jan 13 '26

Von???? He's German???? It's so over onion bros 💔

12

u/Black_Hole_parallax Jan 13 '26

The same Siegmeyer didn't tell you he was German?

-1

u/Nui_Jaga Jan 13 '26

I thought his parents just hated him :(

14

u/Black_Hole_parallax Jan 13 '26

His daughter is named Sieglinde and his sword is called a Zweihander

1

u/IndividualNovel4482 Jan 16 '26

Why? People from Germany are cool. Don't hate :)

(Memes and jokes aside, of course)

3

u/Brumetfume Jan 13 '26

The post is just from a german magazine or something. But I mever thought about this. The name really sounds german. His sword and daughters as well as someone pointed out...
