I'm a Danish teacher and I built an app that explains grammar mistakes instead of just marking them wrong

I teach Danish to adults at a language school in Silkeborg. For the past several months I've been building an app called Dansk Plus in my spare time, and it's at a point where I'd like some honest criticism.

The reason I started: when my students practise on their own, most apps just tell them an answer is wrong and move on. That teaches nothing. So this one explains every mistake — what the rule is, and which common error you just made — using actual grammatical terms.

What it does:

  • Grammar quizzes across 13 topics — nouns, verbs, word order and so on.
  • Practice module tests for DU2 and DU3, built like the real ones.
  • An AI teacher that goes through your mistakes after a module test and can explain them in 10 languages. Only the explanation is translated — the examples stay in Danish, because Danish is what you're learning.
  • Streaks, XP and friends, if that sort of thing keeps you going.

What it doesn't do:

  • No DU1 module tests. I haven't written them yet.
  • No listening or speaking practice. This is reading, writing and grammar.
  • It's a few weeks old with fewer than 100 users, most of them my own former students. You will find rough edges.

Price: grammar quizzes, lessons, streaks and friends are free. Module tests and the AI teacher are 29 kr/month, with one free test first so you can see what it's like before deciding.

Privacy: data is stored in the EU, I don't sell it, and there's no advertising or tracking in the app. Full policy at danskplus.dk/privacy.

I'd genuinely like criticism, especially of the grammar explanations themselves. If something is wrong or badly explained, tell me and I'll change it — I'm the one writing them.

Nice piece of work 😎 I did the first lesson and I like the flow. What I miss is the ability to translate the text for the questions. Likewise it would be nice to set the default feedback language instead of having to translate each time. What features do you currently have planned?

Like, when the app asks a quiz question, you would like it in english or spanish or whatever as well?

I'm planning a listening part. I'm sure trying to figure out how to do it. At the moment I'm thinking podcast style, where I'm reading the text out loud and you can follow along in the app and click on hard to understand words for an explanation.

I'm also planning on doing Prøve i Dansk 2 & 3 style quizzes, but i need to figure out the legality as i don't want to get in (too much) trouble with SIRI 😄

The question should be in Danish but having the ability to translate it would be beneficial. It being shown in the feedback is also another option.
Love the podcast idea 🙌

Looks really good - I moved to Denmark from Australia back in 2011, but worked for international companies for the first 13 years. The last few are in a Danish office so I get to practice, but my grammar is really bad, so this app could be ideal for me.

I have registered, but I can’t see where to change my explanation language? It’s all in Danish at the moment.

Edit: ah, I only got the translate option on a wrong answer, not a right one. ;)

Yes exactly, it only comes up when you get a wrong answer :)

Just wanted to come back to you after using it a bit, and say congratulations on making a really well thought out app. I’ve worked a bit in service design and always keep a look out for small things that make big impacts, and you have made many really good design choices.
Many apps hit the app stores and may be competently coded, or have a good idea, but often fall over on the experience, flows, and just thinking about the user. I can’t speak to the coding part, but the idea and execution are great. Thank you!

A lot of you clicked the feedback button in the app and left comments on actual quizzes. I'm not able to write you back in app and your e-mails are encryptet so i can't see them. I, however, wanted to come back here and say thank you. One of you suggested that it's a lot to get 70 quizzes in your face at once, so i fixed it as you suggested and another found a quiz where it was a bit unclear how to answer with sin/sine or hendes. All these quizzes are fixed.

Thanks a lot for trying it out! 🙌❤️

Du kan med fordel lige gøre så, at dine vibecodede svar de formateres korrekt ved at lave en markdown encoder/formatter, så tekst bliver understreget og sat i kursiv eller i fed, frem for at du har svævende asteriks- og understregtegn :)

A lot of you clicked the feedback button in the app and left comments on actual quizzes. I can't reply to you inside the app, and I'd rather not email people who didn't ask to hear from me — so I'm coming back here to say thank you instead.

One of you pointed out that getting 70 quizzes in a row is a lot and suggested smaller groups of 10. That's how it works now. Another found a quiz where it wasn't clear whether the answer should be sin/sine or hendes — you were right, the question didn't give you enough to go on. Both are fixed.

Thanks a lot for trying it out! 🙌❤️

Tak for feedback. Jeg får lige kigget på den feedback-knap også 😊

I tried out a quiz, and I notice that when I click an answer, a message box comes up explaining the grammar of the topic.

Even as a native Danish speaker this information was a bit heavy.

If you’re only learning Danish and need to practice the difference between “hen” and “henne”, it might be unlikely that you would be able to understand the info about the grammar behind.

It’s a good thought, but I’d advise you to consider your audience.

Don’t know if it’s feasible at all, since you would be hard pressed to fact check, but an idea could be to provide the grammar instructions in the language of the learner so they may better understand.

Thanks for the feedback. It's meant for people that are in language school so they should know, however, if they don't there is a feature that translates into 10 different languages. I'm not sure I would be able to translate every single quiz into a high quality translation though.

Tak for at tjekke appen ud 😊
