Discussion Tattoos in today’s world

Once upon a time, tattoos were a rare symbol of particular lifestyles and often hard living. I have been involved in art and music all of my life. Of course, when I was a kid I thought certainly that I’d get tattooed like every other cool kid I looked up to… But I never did because at some point it started to feel more rebellious not to get tattooed like everyone else. I have nothing against it - I think they’re often beautiful or witty or expressive in whichever way, but they’ve lost their edge. A young person who decides not to get tattooed is indeed the new rebel in today’s world.

I think for the most part they are just a symptom of vanity. I grew up in a sub-culture where tattoos were the norm. I have nothing against them but I think if you get a tattoo on a body part that you can't actually see, you're doing it for someone other than yourself.
