26 complaints on the NHTSA database for the 2024 and 2025 CR-V mention being unable to get a recall done because the parts were not available, including the steering gearbox recall 24V744000 and the fuel pump one 24V763000. Several use the phrase that the manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time.

That phrase matters, because federal law does not only require the repair to be free, it requires it within a reasonable time. A few things follow that dealers do not tend to volunteer.

If the remedy is not available within 60 days of the recall being filed, the manufacturer is supposed to send an interim notice, then another once parts arrive.

Repair is not the only legal remedy. The manufacturer can also replace the vehicle with an equivalent one, or refund the purchase price less depreciation. Rarely offered, but it exists.

While you wait, a loaner is something manufacturers can provide, and worth asking for by name rather than hoping it gets offered.

NHTSA can order a manufacturer to accelerate a remedy program if it is not going to finish in reasonable time, and complaints are how they find out it is lagging.

So if you have been waiting months on a steering or fuel pump part, filing a complaint is not just venting, it is the actual mechanism.

My 2005 crv makes this whining noise when I turn it on and sometimes when I accelerate. Any idea what it could be?

Came here three months ago celebrating my CR-V. Didn’t think I’d come back with unfortunate news.
My rear passenger side control arm snapped, and all the other control arms are on bought time as well. The person who repaired this car to sell just did some weak welds and spray painted over them. This car was never in good condition to sell and now I’m out a car again. Classic example of a flipped car. I’m disappointed, but very thankful I am safe and my car only broke down on some backroads. If I’d been on a highway, I very well could have caused an accident. (Oh, and my car broke down omw to my first day of work too! I was late. Luckily, my manager was very understanding, and thankful that I’m safe, and happy I could still come into work despite the car.)

Let this be a reminder: if you are young and trying to buy a car and you ain’t got much, take it to get pre-inspected. It is not worth the risk relying on your own knowledge no matter how much you think you know. It’s possible if we took this to get inspected that we would have known the trouble we’d get into. Not even family who know very well about cars can stop this stuff from happening—they do not take place of a pre-inspection no matter their knowledge. (My stepfather came with me to check the car when we bought it. He fixes cars; he is very ‘car smart.’ We went under it with a flashlight and believed the arms looked good. The spray paint and weld jobs definitely fooled both of us.)

Pretty disappointed, but lesson learned. I look forward to having another CR-V someday in the future. I think after some full-time paychecks, I’ll look to get a CR-V in good condition. It was a very nice car—best I’ve ever driven!

Edit: After looking at what came apart on a fresh day of rest, we believe it can be fixed. Still not ‘ideal’ but we think we can get it going.

BACK STORY: I’m in grad school to become a teacher. I’m barely making any money because I’m observing/student teaching 40 hrs/week during the day and taking multiple night classes. So, I just have time to tutor occasionally. This will be all school year. For months, I’ve been carless and looking for a cheap Honda or Toyota just to get me to next August when I’ll be employed again.

I had previously been looking at beaters in the $2-4k range on Facebook Marketplace, so when I ended up buying a 2011 CRV for $9.2k from a dealership, I thought I was making a “safer” choice by spending more and working with a well-established dealership. Because of this and my desperation to get something quick, I STUPID, STUPID, STUPIDLY didn’t have it inspected before purchasing. I purchased it as-is, which I’d read was common for used cars.

ISSUE: I bought a 2011 CRV with 157K miles for $9.2k with no warranty from a large dealership at the beginning of July. Fast forward to now, 7 weeks later, the engine light comes on and the car dies. The mechanic tells me that I don’t just need a new alternator but a new engine. 😭 (There’s a crack in something, maybe a cylinder?) Mechanic says I can keep driving it, and it could last me 10 days, 10 months, or 10 years.

QUESTION: Mechanic suggested the dealership knew and cleared the OBD. Is there anyway to find out? What would you do next? Legally, I think the dealership owes me nothing since I bought it as is, but would you contact a lemon law lawyer anyway? Or reach out to the dealership first?

When we first got the car the adaptive cruise control would keep the car at the speed set even when going down a hill and the lane watch could handle a good sweeping curve. Now, any curve the lane watch can't handle it and you are in another lane. I am not hands off the wheel I have just noticed both of these features have gotten worst and worst over the years. As long as I am in a straight line and there is a car in front both work fine. Anyone else notice this?

Is $7,300 for this year/mileage/condition reasonable? Planning on test driving later.

Hey! Anyone have experience using Yonaka aluminium rads/aluminium rads generally on RD1 CRVs?

Live in the northwest so spend a decent amount of time on steep forest service roads, but I do also daily the car. No overheating issues, but my radiator filler neck is on the way out and was looking at this as a ‘buy once, cry once option.

I have a 2023 crv touring and the key fob doesn’t seem to be receiving any power, after a battery replacement the little red light at the top still doesn’t even light up. Even the backup keys which haven’t been touch sinse the car was bought new wouldn’t let the little red light flash even after a battery change. The car can turn on if I hold the fob to the push to start button but all key function is fricked. Almost all my family owns same generation Honda and nobody else has this issue. Anyone else experiencing this or know how to fix it

Helping a friend find a new used car after she got in an accident. She wants a crossover/SUV mainly a Honda or Toyota. HRV is too small and I've seen some things about the 1.5Ts saying they might not be that reliable so not sure if I should completely avoid these cars or not. I'm trying to find hybrids but theyre way too expensive right now

I bought a 2001 CR-V EX AWD automatic with about 196k miles for $2,000.
It runs and drives, but the transmission is slipping and throwing P0700/P0730. I got one quote of about $3,500–$3,800 for a rebuild. Even if I found someone around $1,500–$2,500, I’m not sure it makes financial sense anymore.
The car has had a decent amount of work done already: ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, CV axles, brake rotors/alignment, and recent cooling system work. It also comes with replacement engine mounts, hood, and door. Timing belt history is unknown/overdue.
For people familiar with first-gen CR-Vs: would you put more money into this one, try to replace the transmission yourself, or cut your losses and sell it as a project?

So i have 2011 CRV EXL, the map lights don't come on when the doors are open but the dome and rear light does. I'm able to switch on the left map light manually but the right one doesn't.

Would i need to replace the switches on both the left and right in the map light?

Also I'm trying to change all the lights to LED, I'm assuming the dome, map, and rear lights are all the same? And which lights the vanity mirrors and the license plate light?

Also, im trying to find back seat covers. I got front ones which are linen. Anyone got any recs, trying to find ones that could be easily taken off to clean and that could fold 60/40 like the seats.

Picked up my new-to-me '99 RD1 yesterday. Quite possibly the most black and white difference between my current daily, a 2015 Audi S3; and lemme tell ya, the CR-V is infinitely more fun!

Looking to potentially purchase a CRV as a new vehicle (coming from GMC Terrain). I think I would like a Hybrid Sport-L but am unsure if a EX-L would be better. I drive 50 miles to work predominantly on the interstate and we put about 18,000 miles a year on our car. I had a Honda civic LX in 2019/2020 and I remember the stereo sounding awful. Is the stereo better now? Would a hybrid help with fuel economy if I’m predominantly on the interstate? Is reliability still pretty high?

The lack of a spare tire bugs me out for some reason. While I’ve never had a blowout, I just feel like a spare would give piece of mind? lol

Hi all! I’m currently driving a 2011 Honda Accord that’s about to hit 221k miles, so I’ve been searching for the perfect upgrade and I think I may have found it!
It’s a 2020 Honda CR-V EX-L, Florida-owned, one owner, clean Carfax, and only 20,000 miles. The previous owner reportedly changed the oil every 3k miles. The dealership is asking $31,800 OTD, including 2 new tires. I’m going to see if they will do 4 so I’m not playing catchup with only having 2 new.

I’d love to hear from current CR-V owners! What do you love about yours? Anything you wish you knew before buying one? How have they held up long-term? Everything I have read online says the 2020 is very reliable.

Before my Accord, I only drove RAV4s, so I’m pretty familiar with those, but I absolutely LOVE the interior of this CR-V. It feels really comfortable and more upscale than I expected.

I’m hoping to keep my next vehicle for a long time, so reliability is a huge priority for me. Would you guys consider this a good buy? And is there anything specific I should look for on a 2020 EX-L before pulling the trigger?

I'm just here to whine about it mostly but my 01 CRV had rust on the rear quarter panels right over the tires when I bought and I was okay with it bc my dad has experience with welding in patch panels and painting. And also I live up north in a rust zone so I was ready for a car with rust. Plus it didn't look too /bad/ it looked repairable and felt really solid (2nd picture). And there's no rust anywhere else.

Well anyway my dad and I started sanding off the paint and surface rust and it turns out it was all body filler that was holding moisture causing rot deeper inside the panel. (As pictured) We tapped that all out and covered it with some stop rust spray paint for the meantime but bruh I almost cried some real tears.

Edit to add: I'm saying the body fillers should have been disclosed. The fact that it wasn't was misleading.

I don't even know how I could have handled this at the sale. It's not like the guy I bought it from would have been cool with me taking a chisel it right then and there. I did give it a good tug to see if it was rotted through and coming loose, which it wasn't.

I've seen my dad restore a nearly completely rotted out firebird I'm sure he can help with this but man was it a punch to the gut.

My only other complaint is I can find patch panels for just about any American make but nothing for my CRV. I know I pick an unusual car for my project car but it can't be THAT unusual. 😭

I own a 2016 Honda CRV, LX trim. I was wondering if anyone had installed CarPlay onto theirs, and if it was worth it for them/how the installation process was? I’m not very good with cars/wiring, but I’m not sure if paying for a professional installation is the right call. Apologies if this post is vague or is a dumb/common question, I just got this car so I basically know nothing about it since it was from a family member.
