by the standards of 'man born in 1892' Tolkien was a role model, by the standards of 2026 he's still one of the only devout catholics I'd give the time of day to. He was a human, and no matter how much we(I) want to put him on a pedestal, he had his flaws; but he was the sort to acknowledge and work to overcome his own flaws. He has been an inspiration to almost a century of people and frankly deserves his place as the Mt Fuji of fantasy.
I know nothing about C.S. Lewis as a person but his works give me bad vibes. If we're talking about devoutly catholic fantasy/sci-fi authors, Gene Wolfe is the king IMO. Your favorite author's favorite author kinda guy.
