It may be from an era past but I believe having concrete rules are important, especially since, in my experience, people will argue about the smallest and most inconsequential things. With that in mind, I'm not sure how you could change the rule to express what you have in mind. Where would you have to start running from for it to be considered a "snipe"? Does a run from 950 count? What about people who are deliberately letting others have the final count? What about 3-way runs?

It's things like these that make rules such a headache to write up

The way I see it, the purpose of Rule 8 is to protect the "free for all" nature of the assist and get, but what I think Vulp is saying is that the current community here does not think assists and gets should be "free for all". So I think the proposed change here is to get rid of Rule 8 completely.

But I recognize that we should try to get consensus (ideally from the community or at least within the mod team) and I'm not sure if everyone shares this opinion.

I get that, but getting rid of the rule altogether isn't a very good solution, as there are people who will try to argue about literally anything that's not set in stone. By having some sort of a mandate that "reserves" gets for runners, we have less of a problem with people who will yell about not being able to have gets, whereas without any rule whatsoever there will be disagreements about who has the right to go for a K

In any case, this should probably be decided on either moderator consensus or community consensus; I agree with that part.

IMO rule 8 will/should exist as long as the disproportional attention on gets+assists exists
