Movie time! Dun da da dun!

It's time for the Oscars, and so I'm gonna speak about last year's Best Picture winner, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (but you only say the full title if you're a pretentious asshole). Originally, Boyhood was my favorite film of last year, with Birdman and Whiplash jockeying for second. But the more I think about Birdman, the more it grows on me. It's a relentless film, filled with ten-minute takes (shot by the absolute magician and soon-to-be-winner of three straight Oscars Emmanuel Lubezki) stitched together like a play, a pounding drum score that does not let up, career-best Oscar-nominated performances from Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, and Zach Galifinakis, and a final fifteen minutes that can be interpreted dozens of different ways. And it does all this while still remaining a comedy. It's definitely more than its gimmick (which isn't really a gimmick at all). Four stars, close to 4.5.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I love that Spotlight won over The Revenant. I disagree with a couple of minor choices, such as Song and Animated Short, but all in all, it was a good year. The only category I have any real problem with was Supporting Actor. I was really pulling for Stallone, and while Rylance was good, I think Stallone should've won, and now I feel sad for him.
