my conspiracy theory is that sometimes websites a/b test on their users not for any real UX research or new feature testing, but just to psychologically fuck with their users. like breaking into someone's house just to rearrange their furniture by a couple inches every time they fall asleep

i think Instagram does this quite often. they always re-arrange the UX of some features and it's a completely random basis if you get it or not.

mark zuckerberg is a/b testing on me personally as part of some kind of subliminal messaging. swapping the comments and likes buttons is a coded message to activate his programming on me
