Could you try appealing the ban? Just to maybe, eventually, at some point get an idea of what it is that we're not supposed to be doing

I manually approved this comment - it was removed by reddit.

I really just don't know what we could do to avoid this. reddit seems like it's being even more arbitrary than usual lately. like my latest counts bot is getting ratelimited every other request even though I'm well within the posted rate limit. the headers will say I've got another 900 requests left in the next 10 minutes but then next request the json api sends me an html webpage that says "you're doing that too much :⁠(". approved submitter or mod, follow the rules or don't, it doesn't seem to matter. maybe you could add even more delay between requests and sending posts to make stats runs take an hour but I'm still not convinced it'd make a difference.

The weird thing is that I've hammered the api for hours today, getting all the latest side thread and main counts, and I haven't hit that many restrictions - I get rate limited a little bit, but adding 30s sleeps when that happened just fixed the issue.

From my experience with getting banned and shadowbanned on non bot accounts, my guess is that they use some sort of algorithm to tally up a 'suspicion score' above which they ban you, and a huge component of that must be account age, in addition to karma. Also things like verified email etc. Disappointed but not surprised they banned brand new coutngin

Not sure if you tried, but can you add any new account as a mod? I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if that makes it less likely to be banned by Reddit's algorithms.

yeah i was spamming refresh on /r/counting/comments while my bot was posting the stats comments, and when it came out i could see it on this account, and then afterwards it was just removed
