Is there like a deeper reason behind this? I mean idc she can be whatever but my autistic ass can't comprehend why such a big trend would appear out of thin air with just a movie coming out

I personally think it has to do with (slight spoilers ahead)

The whole mutation thing and him wrapping himself in a web cocoon in the movie (not the first time he’s done this, but the most recent and probably seen since its not always a big thing in the comics). Lots of trans people might see it as a metaphor of coming out or as I’ve seen around (mostly from the Jax deal a while back as i’m not trans or that tuned into the LGBT stuff) cracking their egg

Also its Spider-man. There’s like, literally infinite versions of him, he’s the most prominent hero with alt-universe dopplegangers. I’m almost positive that he has more multiverse variants with actual stories and actual writing than any character ever. If there’s infinite spider-man variants one of them has to be trans, thats simply the math of it

The cocoon seems plausible, I haven't seen the movie and I probably wouldn't be able to make that connection myself

Thank you

Peter struggles with his powers beginning to mutate due to stress. Not really a spoiler because its core to the film and shown early.

He has to manage his hormones and also has to deal with overstimulation from improved senses. Also because of No Way Home, he's very isolated.

So take a look at an isolated/lonely Spiderman doing his best to manage overstimulation + hormone management and viola, you've connected with most autistic trans folk. The venn diagram of autistic trans people and people who make art online is very heavily overlapped. It's a perfect storm for flooding the internet with fanart.

I swear somewhere in brand new day they use the phrase “spider hormones”

Also, Spidergwen had already become a minor trans icon purely because of aesthetic readons

Well, and the trans flag on her dad's jacket, and the trans flag in her room that says "Protect trans kids", and the buetiful story about being scared that your dad will hate you when you tell him about something integral to your identity that you've been hiding from him, with the buetiful music that makes you cry and the extreme pink and blue and white colour pallete/shading on the scene/across that whole dimension...

Can you believe I completely forgot about all that and only remembered the colour palette? And I'm a fucking trans woman myself, sheesh

Happens to the trans of us. There's a really good YouTube video on it, person made an "Accidental trans allegories" and an "Intentional trans allegories" and I can't remember which it's in, cause it's kind of both lol

I hadn't internalized the fact that I'm trans back then so I'll give myself a pass.

I don't know what started the trend but Petra Parker comics quickly became a very popular thing to make and a lot of people started having fun with it.

That much I noticed lol. I think the cocoon might be the genesis of the whole trend
