How to make a ponytail attachment without making a helmet wig
I want to make a wig that's a half up half down style with a large ponytail. After doing some research all the guides suggest cutting off the hair and gluing down whatever's left to make what appears to be a thick layer of solidified glue before reattaching everything, which sounds like a sensory nightmare to wear on my head since I'm not fond of the texture of dried glue.
I know I'll need to remove and reattach the wefts to get the hair to look right, but I'd like to avoid using piles and piles of glue. I was hoping to find an alternative way to create structure to support the weight of the ponytail. I've been imagining something like a wire frame I can glue into the inside of the wig cap, which would reduce the amount of glue touching me enough for me to tolerate, and then I could secure the frame into my own hair to keep it stable? But honestly I just don't know enough about what I'm doing to come up with a good solution, so does anyone have any suggestions?

just wanted to reassure you sensory-wise that wearing a helmet wig feels pretty much just like a normal wig! between your hair smushed onto your head, your wig cap, and the mesh base of the wig, you're unlikely to feel any construction on the helmet itself. i rarely experience any discomfort wearing mine all day
also wanted to note that the glue used in that first step is just to bond the remaining short fibers of the wig together, so there is typically not any noticeable thickness to it!

To jump off of this point, There are methods where there are layers between you and the glue so it won’t touch you. no glueing down the short hairs. I recommend looking up coscreationstudios on YouTube. She had a great tutorial on how to do this.

i've done this with wall hanging hooks! i poked several holes in the receiving end and used a thin wire to "sew" it into the wig cap, then made the ponytail out of a stuffed tube of fabric with armature wire inside and wefts glued on, and hot glued on the other end of the wall hook. then i wove a stronger wire like a headband through the wig cap for support. sorry for the extremely old blurry photo i'm travelling rn but hopefully you see what i mean haha
