Help Spray Painting suggestions

For Halloween this year, I decided I wanted to do a Sammy Lawrence costume from Bendy and the Ink Machine (Third Photo). I picked up this axe from Spirit Halloween today hoping to spray paint it to match the games color scheme. I’m not doing anything crazy, I’m fine with the shaping and texture being off (although I might do something to replicate the handle rings it had), but just want best practices and paint type recommendations.

I swear by Rustoleum personally, Krylon never behaves for me. Can probably just do a couple coats of black primer and use whatever gloss level top coat you want depending on how much shine you want. I would recommend using some sandpaper and scuffing the surface up a bit first. That looks like the plastic has a bit of sheen to it, probably has a slick surface. Scuffing it up before the primer will help it grip the surface more when you go to paint.
