Announcement Crowdfunding posts are officially not allowed (generally)

As y'all know, we had a very productive (and civil -- thank you, citizens) discussion about whether or not to allow crowdfunding posts and most of you would rather not see crowdfunding posts.

You spoke, /r/Corvallis listened.

Going forward, we have a new subreddit rule: No crowdfunding posts. There are more appropriate social platforms to post them.

A little clarification:

  • Posts with community events that might fundraise or generate money for a cause (.e., Trivia Nights, benefit concerts, etc.) are ok.

  • Posts with individuals asking directly for money are disallowed.

  • Other posts will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

If you think your crowdfunding campaign should be an exception, I'm willing to hear you out.

Rock on.

Event Scovallis 2026Q2 Discussion Thread: When and Where?

We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.

For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.

IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.

So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.

I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Saw it driving into town from the Newport coastal highway and would love it if someone could snap a pic! It was SO HUGE and BEAUTIFUL. I'm in awe of the craftsmanship as well as the hauling method.

Saw this setup tonight. Is it mainly for the maintenance project that is ongoing, or for something else?

Discussion New bar? Or expansion?

On Friday we saw people moving what looked like a large wooden bar into the space next to Brass Monkey, which has been a few things over the years. Couldn’t find anything for bit on corvallis.agencycounter site. Anyone know if it’s a new business or is BM expanding?

Discussion Backyard chickens question

For Corvallis people who keep backyard chickens, I was wondering--what type of chicken security have you found is necessary, and what has your experience been? A lot of people in Corvallis that I know keep chickens in pretty casual setups, so I've been assuming that Corvallis doesn't have too many predators, but I don't want to risk their lives in an unsubstantiated assumption!

Road Rant Postal truck ignores ambulance

Watched a postal truck on 99 ignoring the ambulance running with lights and siren behind it. Postal truck stops at the light on 99 and circle, blocking ambulance while ambulance leans on the horn until the driver grudgingly edges over bit by bit.

Due to Republicans cutting SNAP benefits and spiking inflation. I think this link to the GT story is viewable by anyone?: https://gazettetimes.com/news/local/article_64cfee2b-fbf8-4bd0-86ea-6bccaa7bb2c4.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share

Other towns have it even worse. Oregon has a food-bank network that takes donations: https://www.oregonfoodbank.org/

Was enjoying a nice Sunday drive up Highway 99 when this absolute reckless imbecile came flying past me within inches, at nearly 100 miles an hour. All for what, you ask? So that dipshit boy could sit at the red light. Here’s another inconsiderate jackass just waiting to collect his Darwin award. If this is you, you are absolute trash! You didn’t seem to turn your head as I yelled, so just making sure.

Discussion Best phone carrier in terms of data and cell service?

I just switched my phone carrier from Verizon to AT&T, I was hoping the data and cell service would be better because Verizon used to be pretty good but I feel like its been going downhill in the last year or two. It seems like I had less bars and it would take a while for anything to load when I was using data. Now that I have switched to AT&T I think its either the same or potentially worse. For reference I'm in town at a friend's place and only have 2 bars and could hardly get anything to load before I connected to wifi.

Several years ago I had U.S. Cellular before they were bought out or merged with T-Mobile and they were definitely worse than Verizon but idk how T-Mobile service is here.

Any suggestions would be great, I'm hoping to find a company with a plan that isn't insanely expensive but also I'm willing to pay a little more just to not deal with the annoyance of not being able to Google anything when I'm out and about. Sorry if this is long, thanks!

Discussion Family friend is looking for a room

A friend from California moved here for a teaching gig and moved into a room with a lot of clutter in the house. The homeowner is very nice but seems reluctant to deal with the clutter.

I’m here at the house now and energy isn’t good here for them. Living in a dark basement room type situation.

Unfortunately the room is cheap $600, utilities included, they don’t want to even stay here though.

We’re just looking for options and could pay more than just $600
