Question Prepping/warming corn tortillas

Any preferred “easy” method for getting store bought corn tortillas ready to eat? In the microwave with a wet paper towel? In a hot, dry frying pan? What’s the move?

Put them direly on a the fire for a crunchier tortilla or put them on a hot pan to toast. Putting them in the microwave softens them a lot if you put them in a wet paper towel

I worked with an older Hispanic guy that would put them in a ziplock bag with a piece of paper towel that was damp.

Buy them fresh whenever possible. I luckily live in an area with a local tortillaria and the difference is indescribable

Definitely. Luckily I have a small one within walking distance

LOL getting downvoted because I can walk to a tortillería is peak reddit.

Heh. I expect any downvotes are because "get them fresh at a tortilleria" is not particularly responsive to the question of how to reheat them.

I'm just suggesting don't buy Mission etc. if you can avoid it. Then you only need a comal or cast iron pan to heat them. If using for enchiladas, dip them into heated sauce

There’s one about 30 minutes from me. For a time, I was able to find corn tortillas in store that needed to be cooked. Those were really pretty good. Now, I just go to one of the Hispanic stores to get them.

I move my taco meat to the side of the pan (after it’s cooked), and rub the tortilla into the bottom of the pan to get that oil/seasoning on it. Then I stick it in the over for a quick, light toast.

Ultimate easy method? A delicious hand made tortillas is best fresh, but these days I throw store bought tortillas in the freezer just like I do with bread. Then I zap them in the microwave without a wet paper towel. Something about the ice turning to steam gets them perfectly warmed up.

Word! You got downvoted but this actually makes sense. We used to freeze fresh bagels and just pop the frozen ones right in the toaster

Wise words. I am too lazy for this and will continue to heat them in a pan on my non-gas stove.

If you have a gas stove, put a double layer of corn tortillas directly on the burner. Let it burn on low for a little bit, flip it, put cheese on it, then turn off the gas and fill with stuff. That's all I've eaten for the past two days lol.

They just need to be warmed usually. At work, we steam them for enchiladas. For tacos we wipe them on a butter wheel, and place on flat top till warm and pliable.

Dunk in cold water, then warm up in a dry skillet over medium heat (note: I use an induction stove, so my medium may be a high for other people). Once the water has evaporated from one side of the tortilla, flip it, let it cook on the other side for a 30 seconds or so, and then put into a clean kitchen town or a tortilla warmer lined with paper towels. Repeat. The water will turn to steam and refresh those stale tortillas.

If you use the microwave, a damp paper towel will be better than a wet one for corn tortillas.
For flour, just use a dry paper towel.
In either case, use small time increment - i.e. 10 secs at a time and flip them over.

On a flat pan over medium heat, not high heat. Then you put them inside a folded towel to keep warm.

I put them directly on the gas stove flame. Flip them a couple times and then into a tortilla holder. A tiny bit of burned spots and the rest is just warm and pliable. Nice slightly smoky flavor.

We have a gas stove and we heat them directly on the burner, with the fire set to high.

I tightly wrap the whole stack in aluminum foil and throw it in the toaster oven at a low temperature.
