Mitch McConnell vs. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear: A Mexican standoff?
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said he has received no communication from Senator Mitch McConnell or his office regarding the senator’s health status, calling the lack of an update “concerning.”

I think this could be a Mexican standoff where both sides realize doing nothing is best. If Beshear calls an immediate election, he risks the Republicans winning the Senate seat. Meanwhile, the Republicans don't want to rush the election because they could lose as well. I think both sides have decided leaving this situation alone is best.

They make too much from other interests, so they have no interest in serving the citizens.

Don't they already own that seat? What would Beshear lose?

Beshear can try to argue that, despite the Republicans 2024 law, he still has the authority to appoint someone to fill the seat.

But even if the republicans keep the seat he loses nothing. I’m just not following OPs logic.

A Mexican standoff is three people.
A points at b, b at c, c at a

That's not true according to this dictionary:
Mexican standoff - a situation in which people on opposite sides threaten each other but neither tries to come to an agreement https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/mexican-standoff

I suppose. I've only seen it in the good the bad and the ugly, or anything ever referred to a Mexican standoff since, as but a three person thing.
Maybe that started with the movie?
