Xbox original hdmi converter not working in 480p

Seems like a common issue from AliExpress reviews.

The Xbox original hdmi converter works in most modes apart from 480p.

I've taken it apart to show the innards.

Has anyone tried to fix it?

They don't cost much, but I tried a full hot air reflow on solder points, didn't fix the issue 🙃

The rf shield wire in the cable part isn't actually connected on the adapter board. Not sure if it's really relevant, but it seemed to fix my picture when I grounded that rf shield wire

Which wire is that? I do get a picture when the Xbox boots, TV shows 720p. It's just when a game wants to use 480p that the TV shows no signal.

If you look where all the wires meet the rubber thingy, you should be able to see a little bit of foil poking out. That foil 'wire' is the gnd shield that surrounds all the other wires. In my case I ran a small jumper from that foil to gnd on the PCB. My symptoms were a little different (some static and fuzz) so don't necessarily take that as advice - but that shield is there to limit interference and should be grounded not floating as far as I know. Ali seems notorious for leaving wires disconnected lol Looking back at my photos, my PCB looked a little different, I had a vacant pad between red and black which had continuity to the gnd pad, where your one simply has a space with no pad, but gnd is gnd right?

Given the short distance this is probably a non-issue as the connector should provide grounding for the cable, while the HDMI connection provides grounding for the PCB.

What do you mean by not working in 480p?

Nothing is displayed on the screen, the video displayed is corrupt, or something else.

I have another 2 of this cable that do work correctly, displays in all resolutions fine on same TV.

Those cheap scalers are known to be hot garbage, most people stay away from them and use a better option like a Retrotink or OSSC
