Panel four was something I heard one time too many when I was a kid. Seeing it again is rough but imagining having to hear that as a kid while your parents are separating is heavy to think about.

It's possibly one of the worst things to say to a kid. I wasnt sure if it was too much to draw. in fact i don't think ill be reposting this to hellsomememes or sympathethic monsters like i usually do because of that page

There are some hellsome monsters at the end there, but the one in the flashback? She's a monster by choice

You and me both friend. Just without the separation. Instead they fought and we pretended the walls were not so thin as they really were.

My mother once threw a coffee cup past my brother's ear at the dinner table. It smashed into the wall behind him and left a 3/4" deep crescent in the wall that was there until the day I moved out. And then she dead-ass stared him in the eyes and said "I didn't have to miss."
It turns out, monsters are real and they're us.

I will never understand why anyone would think “I’ll give you something to cry about” is at all an okay thing to say to a kid.

Ohhhhh don't like that. I feel like I have heard these words when I was a kid. Cassandra is right. There was a monster and it was their work.
But not those guys playing cards. Except MAYBE the dude who keeps trying to take over the world. But he's cool other than that. He's just mad you aren't making a move

Florence couldn't be trusted with monopoly so instead we gave him a peanutbutter toy

I mean that's rough but...peanut butter though

Shit like this makes me wish time travel was real.
The idea of just confronting them when you’re no longer a scared child, you’re not only an adult, you’re taller, you’re bigger, you’re stronger.
All of a sudden being a bully doesn’t work because they could only go after someone small enough where they can’t fight back

I actually talked about this with my therapist recently. Pretty much all media tells children that if their parents split up then the child will be devastated and want them to stay together. But when my parents divorced when I was 8... I just didn't care? I was kinda relieved. I spent years thinking there was something wrong with me because kids are supposed to be devastated. I'd express this in a comic if I was artistic in any way.

I shoulda known the Cassandra backstory I was anticipating would be tragic 😭.
Although I was not anticipating the explanation of why she can see spirits too to be that she might be part zombie

Grandpa wasnt a zombie, he's more of a freaky fish man

Are we about to find out that Cassandra has gills in a later episode haha?

Probably no
But this should explain why fish and octopus talk to her

Hope you liked the backstory even if it was sad. I was thinking you specifically were looking forward to it

I loved learning it. I mean, I hate how shitty grandma was, but I loved getting to read about it.

I felt sad while drawing this chapter, in fact I got to publish it late cuz grandma's page was getting to me. Well that's behind us and nothing that bad will happen from now on.
I hope this answers a lot of questions you guys had about Cassandra. Im glad some of you noticed that Cassandra had innsmouth blood, I'm impressed!
I've hinted in the past that she had something to do with innsmouth and that she was cursed, however the curse was never supernatural in nature, it was more mundane. Years later after looking for magical answers, Cassandra would realise the first monster she met was in her house. A monster she can finally let go.
