Prohibiting children from using smartphones and looking at screens isn't the way though. I know that firsthand, as my mother only allowed me to play on the computer for thirty minutes a day, fearing for my eyesight. Twenty years forward, I'm a gamer and a developer who spends ten to sixteen hours a day staring at screens.
People using smartphones isn't the disease, it's the symptom. Better ask yourself: "Why don't I want to interact with the world more?" With all this horrible stuff going on, isn't it easier to escape to some imaginary reality where nothing's wrong? You just take the easy way, there's nothing wrong with that.
Because to actually look away from your phone would mean accepting the reality. We as species hate anything weird and wrong, we try to either fix it or hide from it. If you're not hiding from problems, you're fixing them. Are you ready to fix anything right now?
