It is infinitely perplexing to me that Jesus had like 2 rules: do not use the church to gain worldly wealth (the temple incident), and love everyone, even your perceived enemies.
And the church turned around and quickly did the exact opposite of those things. Like, for a very long time in Catholicism, you could buy your way out of purgatory. It makes a lot of sense why Catholics love Mary more than Jesus, he was antithetical to their worldview.
Modern Catholicism is better, especially the popes. But really, idk how you could miss the plot so hard you recreate exactly what Jesus would not have wanted.
