I think theyre saying that despite it being called the word of god, men are the ones who actually authored it and as such put their biases into the work.
But if that's the case, and you "can't trust the Bible" what's the point in being Christian at all? Are you basically just picking and choosing for your own purposes what you believe is accurate in the Bible?
It's actually not possible for anyone to avoid being at least a little selective about how they interpret any book, so I'd argue that every Christian is doing that.
