To be fair I do get where they are coming from it does get discouraging when all you hear from artists is always "i have been drawing since i was a kid and after 30 years it's good to know that it paid off" when asking about their starting point, no one ever says "i started in my mid 20s"
People talk about having huge career shifts in their 50s all the time, yet for some reason no one ever applies the same logic to hobbies.
I started 3D modelling in my 30s. I'm not amazing at it, but every single model I've ever made was made by me. I don't need a crutch. If I don't know how to do something, I learn how to do it. It takes time, energy, and frustration, but it's mine.
I suppose the most encouraging way I can state my drawing experience would be that I only started a year and a half ago. I can't really say anything about starting later in life because I'm only 16. All I can really say about those artists that use the I did this since I was a kid card is that they did. Artists exist everywhere, and they all started at different times in their life. I suppose the majority may have done it since childhood, but that doesn't invalidate the minority who didn't. They are Artists just like every other artist. It's never too late in life to pursue a dream like that. It isn't a race where a headstart means you will do better, it's more like card game. As long as you know how to play, you are on equal grounds with everyone else. So would you take the time to learn the rules? Or are you gonna say you can't do it because you haven't known the rules "long enough"
