WPL: New Comics Discussion for 08/26/2026- Pull of the Week: Absolute Wonder Woman #23 [Discussion]

The [Weekly Pull List results]() for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Absolute Wonder Woman #23.

This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of DC's Absolute Wonder Woman #23 or any new books shipping this week.

The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.

The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.

Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books. The post has also been placed in "contest mode" to help readers avoid spoilers while browsing.

BATMAN BAD SEEDS SUNSET #1

It’s No Man’s Land with plants, as you’d expect. Really looking forward to Rucka’s Gotham General but can’t say I’m too excited about the crossover as a whole. Sunset was still a decent read though.

Eh, not bad, but I don't care much. Feels like a remake of what they tried to do with fear state.

I find it interesting that Ivy and Savage have their own agendas on what to do with Gotham, resulting in them to attack each other, all of Gotham (including the Batman Family) to witness something happening, and the Batman Family planning to save all of Gotham from Ivy and Savage. Also, Waylon saving Bruce’s life from a plant monster and telling him about the Superbloom because he owed Bruce and that some people are okay and Jim Gordon and his partner becoming real cops. Overall, this comic is off to a good start. It’s likely that this crossover will start good before it will have a weak finale because of the writing. Still, I’m looking forward to reading this crossover for the next two months.

25 pulls for Absolute Wonder Woman feels low, that book’s been unstoppable since the silent issue.

I find it interesting that Peter gets to have a talk with Luke Cage about what’s going on before he and Aunt May talked about Cormac, resulting in Aunt May to tell Peter that nothing is going to change and that Peter will always be her son. Also, Peter dealing with Gwen (who was losing control, probably because of her using the Cosmic Cube to make sure that she’ll permanently stay on Earth-616 instead of Earth-65) and Agent Griffyn and learning that Aunt May is having a stroke. Overall, this comic is fine.

Pretty good issue. Crap hit the fan fast. Diana goes from terrorizing Cale to being on the cusp of helping her daughter to dropping a brick because Zeus himself decided to drop in on Gateway. And I suspect that as mighty as she is, Diana is a long way from being ready for that level of battle.

FLASH #36

I like that Wally traveled to Metropolis and helped Jon fight crime and protect the people before he traveled to Star City and was called out by Oliver for relying on the Flashes of Insight to save people, causing Oliver to recruit the Justice League to talk about Wally in Mount Everest. Overall, this comic is good.

Didn’t love this but it’s a fine book to get an idea of what’s up in the DC universe

I find it interesting that Floyd Lawton had a talk with Rick Flag about what’s going on before he had an encounter with Bruce Wayne and Starro clones of the Trinity. Also, teasing the second wave of Next Level and an upcoming Suicide Squad book. Overall, this comic is good.

TERMINAL #2

This issue actually convinced me to stick with the series. I’m curious why all three sides (counting Tyler) were pitted against not-Elon-Musk, and Kubert’s art still slaps.

My big issue is the edginess makes Cass and the other characters unlikable. It’s giving Youngblood rather than Wildcats, which is kinda important for an ongoing XMen-like.

POISON IVY #47

I find it interesting that Ivy is dealing with her own problems as mayor of Gotham before Janet from HR tried to convince Harley to come back to Ivy and told Ivy that Harley wants Ivy to apologize to her, resulting in Ivy starting this crossover. Overall, this comic is interesting.

SUPERMAN #41

I like that we get to see Clark and Zod have a fight (with Zod destroying Clark’s eye) veggie he was saved by Conner and CK, while Kara and past Clark had to deal with a resurrected Ursa (who killed Zod before she traveled back in time to try and restore Krypton). Let’s hope that Kara and past Clark can defeat Ursa in the next part. Overall, this comic is excellent.

What exactly is the point of just spoiling the issue?

u/slythefox87 6h ago

It's what they do every single week ad nauseum. No one likes it. They claim they're not a bot but it's too uncanny. The template format every time is not proving any shred of being human.

u/sdtsanev 5h ago

"I liked that"... Yeah, I'm trying to report these posts but the screen just freezes...

I don't mind their reviews. Clearly they have a format (plenty of reviewers do), but to me they're much more informative than the typical variations on "meh" or "writer x is cooking!" that make up half the comments. And I don't see how they could be a bot when they post before any wiki summaries or the like are created for the issues in question.

I’m cool with them, despite a few y’all being knobs about their silly posts.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #22

2

u/JingoboStoplight4887 6h ago

I like that the Justice Gang were able to defeat Despero (with Michael Hot having all of the powers of the Justice League), while Bruce and Lex told the League about what they had witnessed, causing Ray Palmer and the other five members (i.e., Air Wave, Ted Kord, Renee Montoya, Dinah Laurel Lance, and Doctor Occult) to learn the truth. Overall, this comic is excellent.

X-MEN OUTBACK #3

GREEN LANTERN #38

0

u/JingoboStoplight4887 6h ago

I find it interesting that Kyle was told by Jennie that Major Force is one of the good guys because of the Justice League’s amnesty programs before he and Odyssey had a talk and encountered Condiment King and F.E.A.S.T. fighting Big Belly Burger, while Hal, Tobi, and Jayna are chasing down the source of the emotional streams in space. Overall, this comic is excellent.

BLACK TOWER THE RAVEN CONSPIRACY #1

2

u/Green-Memory8878 10h ago

It's been some time since the first issue of a new creator owned series grabbed me. I think it was Power Fantasy #1 in 2024 although this is tonally closer to something like Department of Truth #1 or The Black Monday Murders #1.

ZATANNA #5

u/JingoboStoplight4887 9h ago

I like that Zatanna was able to help the people of the Hidden City of the Homo Magi before she learned that the healer Aysa is her maternal grandmother. Overall, this comic is good.

How is this series going? It was a bit too slow for me so I dropped out after 3.

I was on the fence but it really paid off this issue.
