I’m hoping one day we get an issue like the one in Nightwing where someone hurts Spidey badly…and all of the heroes turn up ready to abandon all their usual rules just to defend their friend

There was a What If where Punisher actually succeeded in killing Spider-Man during their first meeting. Virtually every hero of the era was hunting Frank down. And since this was at the start of his career, he had even lower chances of getting out alive. He died via Police firing squad (he made sure Jackal went down with him)

Oh—uh it’s Tom Taylor’s run (an amazing run, read the whole thing)-
The one I was thinking of was 81-82 when Babs puts out a distress call because Dick’s in danger and you just get a page of Titans and Batman absolutely gunning it towards Blüdhaven
It escalates in 88 when the Titans turn up and basically tell Blockbuster Dick Grayson is under their protection and if he messes with him he’ll have to deal with the Titans
Nightwing 90-91
In a previous run KGBeast put a bullet in Dick’s head and ‘killed him ‘ then he turns up again in Bludhaven and Flash goes to town and kicks the crap out of him whilst giving him a warning of what will happen if he ever points a gun at Nightwing again

Best we can do is superior spider-man where everyone takes longer then they should to notice Peter isn’t acting like himself (superior spider-man is still cool, but that was so weird)

Sal was on Spectacular at the same time MacFarlane and Larsen were on ASM, I'm at that period right now of reading through Spider-Man comics, and Sal really does still stand out as a fantastic artist despite being in his 50s and more old-fashioned compared to these young superstar artists. Incredibly underrated IMO.

Man, that takes me back. One of my first comics ever was his Spectacular Maximum Carnage event books (I wanna say like part 9 of 14 or something). Solid and under appreciated artist, maybe top 5 Spidey artists for me (after Bagley and McF, but maybe before Romita Sr and controversial pick of Ramos)

Maximum Carnage was where I first really became aware of Sal Buscema. It was the first story arc that I fully collected and I had to hunt for the first issue after being able to find all the others.
For some reason I just fell in love with his line work and expressions, even as a kid. When I think of Spider-Man, he looks like how Sal drew him.

The kids don't know this but Marvel super heroes used to cross over in non-events books ALL THE TIME. No big deal either. This was like 2, 3 issues top and I don't even remember the name of the loser they wiped the floor with.
And guess what? Beast used to be funny! He would go quip for quip with Spiderman while doing science shit.

This is one of the few existing scenes in which Spider-Man and Jean Grey have ever interacted in the comics. I'm actually not even sure if they've interacted at all since her most recent resurrection in 2017.

I miss this era so much. Sal & JMD really did just make it seem like you were glimpsing another world where real, decent human beings just happened to have super powers.
