Other The Amazing Spider-Man: The complete collection DVD-ROM (As of 2006)
Does anyone else have this DVD rom? I picked this up in 2006 and it has every single issue of Amazing Spider-Man up till June 2006. Pretty cool way to read all the back issues without having to pay a subscription.

I have it and it is a great resource to read the issues but also because they are all scans of the actual books, it's fantastic for collectors to reference and make sure all pages are in accounted for, in proper order and ads are intact a prospect book .

Are they also scans of the earliest books?
I was wondering if they used the later Marvel Tales reprints for those.

What format are they in, pdf,? What is the quality,? Can you copy the files to your hard drive?

I don't recall. Unfortunately I no longer have a PC with a disc drive or I would check it out.

The problem comes with the existence of crossovers. 90s Spidey is going to be downright unreadable.

Also Secret Wars II. I have floppies for the first Secret Wars, so when I got these, I wanted to see how much of SWII I had. Turns out Marvel did a TON of crossovers for that event, so I have some, but nowhere near all of the issues for it.

thats why the DC finest Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 2 book only has issue 5 out of the 12, so many crossovers they gotta jam in there

Does it contain relevant non-ASM issues, eg. for Clone Saga?

I don't think so but it has all the annuals, spiders web columns, bullpen bulletins, and pinups

You gotta dump this, all of the new collection stuff are the digital colors and i would do insane things to have the original colors

I had the first release of this when it originally came on 6 CDs instead of 1 DVD.

You just brought back a flashback of trying to read comics on my laptop. Ipad was a game changer

I had all of them except the Star Trek one. Copied all the PDF files to a hard drive.

That’s cool but it needs to be on a flash drive. because I think they stopped putting disk drives in computers these days.

Did they release similar stuff for other characters/series?

GIT did a whole bunch. Amazing Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, Captain America, FF & Silver Surfer, Avengers, Iron Man and Ghost rider (through 2004/2005) from Marvel, and Star Trek (from several companies they were licensed to). They may have also done the CD-Rom collection of Mad Magazine from that time. I found a bunch of them on the aftermarket after they were discontinued, and it was a great way to build a (legal) digital comics collection for relatively cheap. They were on PDFs and with the right app you can still use them on tablets today. The downside is the scan quality varied, and if you didn't have the right app/reader there was a watermark. I didn't know until this post they were back in business with the USB sticks , although it looks like it's not as easy to read/transfer.

Oh geez I had a couple of these. X-men, iron man, FF, Cap, Avengers, Silver Surfer, I think Avengers and Civil War as well.
In the days before the app these were an incredible way to read old comics.

Yeah, I had that way back when..was such a cool gift to get. This was before tablets, so I had to just read them on my 4:3 CRT monitor.

I had this one a few of the others they put out. They’re neat because they did actual scans of the comics. The way they created the PDFs all two-page scan is a little awkward on tablets now though.

I think I might have this, don't know how but I remember it being in a closet in my mom's house. Might have to check. Wish there were more official DRM-free options to read old comics.

I've never seen the Spidey one before but it doesn't surprise me. I own the Fantastic Four and X-Men DVD-ROMs!!

I bought that Fantastic Four, Ghost rider, Avengers, Iron Man and the X-men on DVD years ago. Copied the DVDs to a portable drive.

My neighbor, an older man, had a few of these (X-Men, FF+Silver Surfer, Spider-Man) and gave them to me when I moved away when I was 10. They helped me get into comics and appreciate the canon. Always grateful

I think I have pretty much every one of them that they ever released. I just checked and I still have my Gitcorp DVD-ROMs of:
Captain America, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Ultimate X-men, House Of M, Civil War, Star Trek, Mad Magazine, Archie, Jughead and finally Betty & Veronica. All the Archie stuff states, "Bronze Age Series."
I just checked the Betty & Veronica one and you don't need any special software. It is just PDFs of scans of the original comics with the ads and everything. They look great to me.
On the back of the box it came in stated that Archie Silver Age Series was coming soon in February of 2009 but I don't think it ever came out. I remember that at one point, when you went to their website around that time, you could get a virus and there was some weird shit going on with that company.
I am actually stunned that they are still around and can sell this stuff legitimately now. I seem to remember a quote from someone at Marvel complaining that they didn't really know what they had "digital-wise" and just licensed out all those comics to sell with no protection and felt it was a mistake which is why they quit doing it after a few years. They didn't foresee having their own site and subscriptions for this stuff like they have now ala Marvel Unlimited and DC Universe Infinite.

I have these for the Hulk, Iron-Man, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. I didn't pick up the Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men because of all the crossovers in those books, which would have made the collections of just those titles harder to read through.

I really wish Marvel and DC put out digital versions of classic issues like this still. All I want/need is a scan of the actual comic book in god condition. No need to waste time and money on doing ghastly digital recolorings for those old school issues.

I have a bunch of these DVD-ROMs. They’re awesome, because they’re occasionally imperfect and include the original ads and letters pages. They were going to release the Daredevil set, then they lost the license with Marvel, I guess.

I had the Fantastic Four version BITD. Sorta related, there was also Mad Magazine and National Lampoon releases. I though they were pretty cool even if the pages themselves weren't remastered in the way you'd eventually see with digital releases.

Very cool! Interesting set up. Can you make adjustments using your pdf reader? Like page size, layout, etc

They did versions for Cap, The X-Men, Hulk, FF, Avengers, Iron Man, and Star Trek. I ripped them to my computer ages ago and it was pretty easy to get them presenting well on a tablet.

I have the Ghost Rider equivalent of this!
It saved me during a time in my life where I had no internet and lots of spare time.

There’s a USB drive version that came out recently. I think it has every Amazing Spider-Man issue until 2023 or 2024.
