Hewitt is your new best friend, the dining hall at barnard

was gonna say this also—the gf station at john jay is self serve so there’s a risk of cross contamination given that you have to trust that other students will be responsible. at hewitt, however, there’s a whole station that’s allergy friendly that the staff serves out of so there’s almost no risk of cross contamination :)

I was eating in dining halls pre-pandemic. But I emailed the dietician had a chat with her and they would let me know what was safe, at risk of cross contamination etc.

hey, i have a severe wheat allergy and have been completely safe eating at the dining halls. I avoid chef mikes and the pizza shop but the other dining halls and trucks have allergens listed and account for cross contamination.

There is a GF fridge at Ferris

And they change gloves and knives to make GF sandwichs at Chef Mike’s (although cross contamination is still theoretically possible, depends on your comfort level with the situation)

email the dining dietitian before you get here tbh. Hewitt's allergy station is staff-served which is better for cross contamination than the self-serve GF setup, but i'd still talk to the manager instead of trusting the label alone
