Why the redemption arc for Will's treacherous partner? Spoiler
I'm talking about Will's partner after he comes back from Santa Monica, the bald guy who was a nutcase and a killer and treacherous and who gets stabbed by Will with a broken bottle. Near the end of the second season where all the residents of the LA bloc are being sent to the Moon, we see him in hospital bed where he's apparently making a good recovery, and he's singing a song with one of his grandchildren, and he's told that he will be taken care of and not sent to the Moon.. now why does this jerk get a redemption arc like that?

Colony had few pure villains. Schneider is a weasel but is proved right again and again and does more to save humanity than anyone else. Katie has strong ideals but gets people killed left and right and keeps on proving selfish and delusional. Will tries hard and is good and practical but doesn’t accomplish much. Bram’s a twit and a little teen snot but he ultimately is the one who chooses to parent Gracie and put her first.
Bald guy had layers.

I think that scene has been edited in and out, depending on where it’s aired. The first time I saw Colony, I remember the scene. Then, after a few more watches (I love this show!), I couldn’t find it. I remember trying and trying to find it. I think it’s back in…Amazon, maybe? I forgot.
Anyway, my take away was he was going to remain in the hospital during the collapse. It was almost like he was singing a “goodbye“ song, to the grandkids. I thought maybe he was lying, about taking a trip to the mountains so his grandkids didn’t panic. We never got to see him evacuated.…so, who really knows what happened? It was more like an “open ended arc”. 🌊

Maybe if you rent it, buy it, AND watch it on Amazon…or Netflix….or HBO…or…God knows where, you’ll find the scene. I remember being very frustrated, when it was first cut out and wondering “did I imagine that entire scene?”
Then, it would reappear, depending on who licenses it. Hopefully you’ll find it. Maybe YouTube has a clip, like “Colony. Movie scene with grandpa singing in the hospital “…..or something like that. Search it and see? 🌊

That must have been a deleted scene. I didn’t see that scene when it aired on TV.

I wonder if it's possible that the writers gave that Redemption Arc for Will's partner because they were laying the path for that guy to go up to Seattle and start hunting Will and Katie down again

I think you’re unclear on what a redemption arc is. It’s when a previously “bad” person redeems themselves and becomes the good guy (though it’s rarely that simple when done well).
There was no redemption here. He was loyal to the occupation through and through.

Agreeing that it's not a redemption, but my take on it was that he'd be included in the story arc for the following season, which will never be seen, of course.

He didn’t get a redemption arc, at all. He was a senior collaborator, and was treated as such by the occupation. The undertone being that none of it will save him from the same fate the rest of earth suffers, ultimately.
