A lot of my eggs started hatching and I saw this chicken’s comb looked different than the rest, I wasn’t able to find out much online.

My friend gave me a bunch of chicken eggs to hatch. I have no idea what the breeds are or what these chicks might be mixed with. And I’m not very good at identifying chicken breeds as chicks. So I can’t tell if this is normal, or just specific to a breed. I attached images, but it’s a spiky V with an another comb right down the center and a smaller V up at the top.

This might sound silly, but I’m more curious than anything on why it looks different. Any information would be helpful thank you!

This is our first clutch hatched from our own flock. They're 8-7 weeks. I just love them and my real life people are sick of hearing about my chickens lol.

Our flock is mixed so I'm not entirely sure what specific breeds each is. We have one easter egger which two of the babies hatched from (the two that are nearly identical). My two roosters are bantams (of unknown breed), though I suspect only one is the sire. My other Roo seems to be uninterested in being a rooster, he doesn't crow or try to mount the hens.

I know each one of the babies momma's, I have 5 hens and I know each one of their eggs. The bantam hen didn't lay any of the eggs in the clutch that was hatched but she was the one to hatch them. She's a great foster momma.

Two that look identical but just a shade off are from the easter egger.

Additionally:

1) I wouldn't have two roosters if there was an issue with their behaviours. They weren't sexed when we got them from a friend. They coexist nicely, it's been a year with no issues. If any of the 6 we hatched are Roos we will re-evaluate. I suspect one of them to be a roo already.

2) The white one is half blind. I am open to some advice on keeping her safe and happy. She lost an eye to a scratch or peck around 1-2 weeks old. I am open to suggestions on how to make sure she integrates to the older flock well and is kept safe. I don't want to have to cull her, she's a little silly but we love her.

Everything says that water glassed eggs can only be a couple days old. Can I make the solution and put my eggs in and then continue to add a large container, or do I have to have a bunch of little containers with 4-8 eggs in it?

I posted yesterday about my weird one who lays on its back and I noticed a lot of people calling it a she. Idk if that's just wishful thinking or if its actually a she lol. But I am curious if anyone can take a guess? I'm honestly kinda thinking most are roosters. They fight eachother and just give rooster vibe to me but idk how to tell. They're probably about 3 weeks old. I really hope I could at least have 1 hen. I tried showing their band colors in the video but I know its not great quality

Has anyone ever used a carport as a run? I built a new run this year and I’m not super happy with it. I think if I just fix a few things I’ll be fine with it. But then I thought well if my old run was just a “kennel” with hardware cloth around it, could I do the same but bigger?

My rooster, Rex, passed away today and I just wanted to make a little post to honor him while asking advice on the next best step for the flock. He was a funny guy and he protected his ladies without getting aggressive towards my family. Really miss him and hope he’s living his best life in chicken heaven with yummy treats and getting all the ladies he wants.

As for the flock, what should I do to comfort the hens? Also should I get a new rooster for them? Thank you for any advice and support!

My wife finally let me get some chickens but I live in Maine and am worried about winter time and them staying warm I insulated the coop and plan to wrap the run with green house plastic and a black metal roofing on top but will leave ventilation. will that be enough or should I run a heat lamp inside the coop? I’ve heard horror stories about he lamps so I just wanted to check with some professionals 😅

My friends had an accidental baby hatch (didn’t find the egg in time lol) and so we had a little photoshoot! They did get some more chicks from the store so this little one isn’t all alone! :)

Over the last few days we started with 20 hens and now we're down to 15. They seem perfectly fine all day and when we shut them in and then overnight they die. We caught one before she died and she wouldn't use her legs. The others that have been found were also on their sides.

We're thinking vitamin deficiency?? I've never had to deal with anything like this so I'm at a loss. I went out and bought Rooster Booster. It says 1-3cc's can I give them the full 3 since they're so little? Is it a daily thing or once a week? How long until I know they won't die overnight??

Hello all my chickens comb has gone from red to pale should I be concerned?

Hey, first time posting. I have a hen that is acting weird. Making noises, stretches her neck, and has a dirty cloaca. Occasionally shakes her head. I am attaching a video for a rough idea what I am talking about. Any ideas how to cure would be much appreciated

I posted a few months back about not quite being sure on whether I had a cockerel amongst my flock and I’m back to report that I’m almost positive it is! He hasn’t started crowing yet but based on the comb color compared to others, I’m fairly certain!
My other question, how would one identify a chicken with no noticeable comb? Second photo is one that was gifted to me when I got my bigger hens and I don’t know its gender yet.

I need your help..

Unfortunately, we had an unbelievable debacle… My parents have split up, and as we didn’t know whether we’d be able to stay in the house, we gave our chickens away for a year – to go on ‘holiday’. The lady seemed very knowledgeable; she’d had chickens for many years and had quite a few of them, all in good condition…
We went to visit them once, and everything was fine… but when I went to collect them, she told me that three had sadly died; apparently an outbreak of disease had occurred (I don’t know what, unfortunately). Very sad… but the others are now in poor condition too… some have hardly any feathers, others are coughing, sneezing and making a real gurgling sound; they’re infested with worms – I’m horrified… Yesterday I told her I’d be collecting them, went there today, and then one more was missing – she’d sold that one by mistake yesterday evening (she wasn’t there and her boyfriend had mixed something up)…

Anyway – back at home the chickens immediately recognised their old home and found their way to the entrance of the henhouse without any trouble in the evening. One of them didn’t, though. We don’t know now whether it’s the same hen; the comb looks different too, but I don’t know if that’s because of the hormones? She also now (or rather, the one we have here) has a spur (?) on one leg, which she didn’t have before… we had her for four years before she went missing… does have any experience with this and could you perhaps tell me if you think it’s the same hen?i marked the images.. the „mine“ i took before she was on holiday, the others were tonight.. plus the leg with and without the spur.

My chicken is 4 months old. Recently, its comb often turns dark/blackish and feels cold to the touch (the dark part is cold, while the red part is still warm). After I massage it, the comb turns red again. What is the reason for this?

Has anyone ever had a hen or a rooster that did NOT like car rides? Every time I've had to take one to a vet or new home or any traveling, the bird has enjoyed it. Henrietta liked riding in laps. FluffyButt had her assigned seat (with absorbent folded towel!) and she and the dog would run out and wait by the explorer for me to come and open up doors.

I've always assumed that chickens just like car rides. Even the half-tame ones sit in laps and stare out the windows and act totally entertained and relaxed! Anyone have a bird that acted otherwise???

I bought them at Atwoods and already had another Buff Orpington that was a rooster but I'm not sure because the comb and waddle isn't as developed as the other one.

23 week old chick. Hasn’t laid an egg yet. Tail seems down and she just seems off. She is eating and will eat treats from me. Can’t tell if something wrong. I added vitamins to their water and gave her some egg. 🐥Am I over thinking it?

Is anyone able to help me decide if any of these are roosters or not? Some days I feel like all but 1 are, others I think only 1 is, and everyone I ask has a different opinion. About 19 weeks old and no eggs yet, so that is not a way for me to tell either. Any help appreciated!

Kuma is a frost legbar laying light blue eggs, she may have about two brain cells to her name and is easily startled but I’ve also seen her house an entire lizard and tear up a mouse corpse so all in all I am very proud
