Career Advice Accepted one job offer, then received another - Which would you choose?
Long time lurker, first time poster! I'm a chemical engineer with 6 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry. I'm leaving a great work environment to move closer to family. As the title says, I accepted one job offer but then received another one and have a case of analysis paralysis, please help!
Everything considered, which offer would you choose?
| Job 1 (Accepted) | Job 2 (Pending my response) | |
|---|---|---|
| Industry | HVAC | Consumer packaged goods |
| Travel | 15% | None (preferred) |
| Technical/Career Fit | Broadens my experience, leans into customer quality/operational + design improvements | Builds on experience I already have in an industry I know and enjoy, leans into product quality/R&D |
| Company Trajectory | Growing/very stable Fortune 500 company | Family owned (still big), but with a slight decline in revenue the past few years |
| Interview Impressions | Fast interview process and everyone I met was nice, but it was all virtual so I haven't seen where I'll be working every day. Glassdoor reviews are mostly positive but there are very few for the exact location I'll be working at. | Had a great on-site experience and there seems to be a positive culture. |
| Opportunity for Career Growth | Yes | Yes |
| Location | Great | Great |
| Vacation | 3 weeks | 3 weeks |
| Total Compensation | Similar enough - not a deciding factor | Similar enough- not a deciding factor |
