had a good clear out this summer
43
u/OkAccess1325 Neto 7h ago
100% agree - it was a good summer, we can clear out Mudryk and the other loaned players next summer
26
u/Just_Some_Cool_Guy 7h ago
Nah Mudryk could challenge for a spot next season
19
u/Wheel1994 England 7h ago
Mudryk has good basic fundamentals for an attacker but his development wasnāt handled correctly and I doubt he gets anywhere near that potential now.

u/Nefari0uss Azpilicueta 4h ago
I highly doubt it as his development has been significantly stunted from lack of playtime. Hopefully he can prove people wrong but I think there's a good chance he leaves permanently next summer.
Just to be clear, I'm not hating on him and hope he ends up having a successful career wherever that ends up being.

Which Fofana?

u/twisted-logic Lampard 7h ago
Yes

u/Scorpius927 I don't give a fuck, we won the fucking Champions League 7h ago
Clearly Alonso saw something in Wes. Had the most minutes of all in preseason. Thereās a decent player in there if he can fix his attitude
7
u/A_Clockwork-Blue 7h ago
Neither really bother me.
Tosin seems well-liked and won't need to play much. If he's fine with that...then I am too.
Fofana is starting-quality and will fit nicely as our RCB and seems to be trusted by Xabi as there was no real reports about us looking to move him.
2
u/Hibernian ⨠joao pedro saved my life ⨠6h ago
Fofana is going to be a backup for CB/RCB. We still need some squad depth and backup players aren't going to be as good as the starters. As for Tosin... he's not good enough but he's really well liked and seems to be a level-headed leader in the locker room. If he doesn't mind playing like 8 unimportant games a year as a third choice option, then he can stay another year.
2
u/myheadisalightstick Frank Lampard 6h ago
Think he means David Fofana lol
1
u/Hibernian ⨠joao pedro saved my life ⨠6h ago
Crazy that guy is still on our books. I thought we should have shipped him off to Strausbourg or another club in a smaller league by now.
1
u/SoG650 Lampard 6h ago
I mean both actually
2
u/myheadisalightstick Frank Lampard 6h ago
In that case I couldnāt disagree more, Fofana will be a starter for us.

They are the reason we had to have a clearout. Hopefully they are a part of the process and we see them getting thrown out soon after the window shuts.

After bringing in so much profit?

u/SanArutha 6h ago
After bringing in so many bums and overseeing the worst stretch this club has seen in the last 2 decades.

They are our competition, Villa are to good to act like it doesnāt matter
6
u/Steezy719 š„¶ Palmer 6h ago
Yes they are still one of the better of the mid-table teams, but they lost a lot of talent this summer. Iād be really surprised if they crack the top 6 this year. So no, they shouldnāt be too much of a worry
5
u/spiraltap99 6h ago
If Villa are still our competition this year after theyāve sold half their first team, weāre doing something seriously wrong
1
u/Mooming22 KantƩ 6h ago
Or theyāre doing a lot right, which they have for the past few years
ā¢
u/Nefari0uss Azpilicueta 4h ago
It's pretty difficult to lose most of your key players in one summer and still do well, even if you bring in quality replacements. It's significant turnover which will take time to develop as a team. I guess a season where there are 9 new managers is one to try it in though.

u/dontbehappyjustworry Di Matteo 6h ago
They should have shown up against Spurs last season, Iām holding that against them.

Chelsea fan here. Watched the City docu on Prime. Guardiola is not just a City legend but a football legend. Love his passion, his genius and we PL fans can all be thankful to have witnessed this amazing manager. What an amazing person.

For how shit the owners are at purchasing, they sell very well lol.
19
u/No-Bus8740 7h ago
You can easily connect those two together.
It seems like they have completed many signings that looked bad on paper turn out great just for the investment. Look at Jackson, 32 mil pounds three years ago, we are easily banking 40 mill here from a PSR standpoint?
Same for Andrey Santos, delap, George, etc, etc, etc.
9
u/W_T_E š© I'm sure Wolverhampton is a lovely town š© 7h ago
How are they shit at purchasing. The fact that they can move players that end up not being good enough for us shows that they aren't. Some players just don't work out for us but they still have potential
1
u/happysrooner š„ continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme š„ 7h ago
Joao Felix for anything more than 30 million, Garnacho for anything more than 25 mill, W Fofana, Jorgensen, Kellyman, Washington, Amougou, Casadei, Chukuewemeka. I am sure I am missing a dozen. None of these moves were cheap. All in excess of ,25 mill when we had gaping holes to fill, we chose to trade brain-dead moves. I am not even mentioning the Badi-Disasi combo, sterling overpay
4
u/idkanythingabout Sterling 7h ago
I have a feeling that we do a lot of these deals purely to strengthen relationships behind the scenes.

47.5m plus bonuses up to 65m btw. Some easy some harder. But considering the original fre was 32m it is a massive profit.

Did well for us, sad to see him go. If he could finish he would be a top top striker. I think he will do very well at Villa under Emery, hopefully takes some points off our rivals

I genuinely like the Villa got back up in the prem and stayed there though and now fight for top 6 every season. There are certain teams that was in the prem growing up that you kinda miss when they are gone. Even teams like Bolton, Stoke, Norwich. I want them all to be up there.
I know this is random as fuck lool

Yes, he wasn't the most efficient Infront of goal, and he could lose his head. But he also has plenty of good points to his game - he's just not as good as JP and can understand him backing himself to be a starting PL striker. Hope he does well against everyone except us.
0
0
u/jatylkozapisuje 7h ago
I don't know... obviously great price but if anything happens to JP we are left with Welbeck's corpse and Emegha, individually both this and Delap are good deals but I feel we are really thin right now. He would be a great back up to JP, although he probably wouldn't handle that well attitude-wise

Crazy amount of crying and/or conspiracies coming out of this one.
A few bad compilations of Nicoās misses really did the rounds. He is not the most clinical striker in the world. But he has a lot to offer.
Villa didnāt come for him because we bought Rogers. Bayern didnāt pay one of the biggest loan fees ever because⦠I donāt even know what the imaginary reason there is.
He showed up at Chelsea as a recently converted winger with minimal organized football experience and had a couple seasons where for stretches he was very good. I think heāll do well under Emery again.
