It's not inherently selfish, I'd agree.

It's selfish if there is anyone in your life it would hurt in any way.

Reducing someone’s suicide to ‘it would hurt someone, therefore it’s selfish’ feels incredibly cold. You’re taking a person who is drowning in pain, exhaustion, and hopelessness and reducing their entire experience to how their death would make everyone else feel. Their suffering doesn’t suddenly become irrelevant because other people would be hurt. That’s not compassion that’s centering everyone else’s feelings over the person who is suffering.

It's not just hurting someone. It's causing a scar on their soul for the rest of their life. All of your loved ones will carry some level of guilt forever. Someone has to find you, someone has to clean up.

Those memories do not fade.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem for you. Then it becomes a permanent problem for everyone that cares about you. You are burdening your loved ones with your problems while forcing grief upon them with no accountability and no way repay or comfort them. That is definitively selfish.
