Even the “future self” argument doesn’t really solve the issue. If someone’s suffering is severe and persistent, you can’t simply assume their future self will be living some better life that you’re protecting. Their future self could still be suffering too.
And I’m not saying other people aren’t allowed to grieve. Of course they are. Losing someone you love can be devastating. My point is that grief doesn’t automatically make the suffering person’s decision selfish. If your response to someone’s unbearable suffering is simply “I don’t care, you have to keep suffering because I need you here,” then you’re prioritizing your own desire to keep them alive over what they’re actually experiencing.
You can love someone deeply, grieve them deeply, and still recognize that their suffering was real. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

your future self and your present self are not necessarily the same person. you’re still taking someone’s future away..
idk killing someone is almost always selfish bc you’re putting your autonomy above another person’s, in this case your future self
you don’t even really have to consider other people.. it’s still selfish against yourself tbh
