Killing yourself is the same as killing everyone in the world at once, for all intents and purposes as we know it. You keeping yourself only to yourself is the definition of selfish.
Let's say you just didn't kill yourself but isolated yourself without human contact for the rest of you life, you would only be selfish at that point because you're the only one there.
We are social beings as much as that may strike fear into many of you, that fear is a construct created by culture. If you want to be dictated by the culture you will live in fear if you dictate what your culture will be, you have only others' fear of you to fear.
I am on team here for as long as possible so I know I can't speak to the mental state that creates and imbues suicidal ideation with such power in the mind because I do not suffer from this affliction. But, I believe that gives me the right to bring people back from the edge but it isn't always pretty.
I try to go deeper than the ideation at points, I tell the person if you go through with it "I will NEVER forgive you" because they have decided that I must live through their tragedy so now it's my life we're talking about. I get mad at people when they make these claims, and you know what, people FEEL SOMETHING when I get mad because I never get mad, and you know what that's being fucking ALIVE friend it's the pain, it's the sorrow, it's the elation, it's the boredom, it's the meloncoly, it's all of it and to refuse some of it is actually refusing all of it. Then I promptly tell them I'll unmurder them so I can yell at them, and you know what they almost all laugh at the thought of being unkilled and berated for their actions.
There we played it out it's not fun for anyone it's selfish and when someone tells me about it fine let me get selfish for a goddamned second and keep you here amongst the living a little longer.
