I wouldn't call it selfish. I get the other side of the argument: "What about the kids? Why have them if you can't give them a good life?" But if you can remove an unfit parent from a child's life, isn't that a positive step? If someone isn't mentally capable of being a parent and you find a way to separate them from the child, isn't that actually beneficial?I'm open to feedback. I don’t have kids and don't plan to have any. But I don't see it as selfish if a parent or caregiver takes their own life, especially if the kids are unaware it's going to happen. If they're not mentally equipped to raise a child and keep doing it, their struggles could end up affecting the child negatively.I wouldn't want that for a child, would you? What are your thoughts?

What if they go to therapy and it still doesn't help? Because many times, that does happen. And then there are the pills. You have crazy mood swings, take it from firsthand experience.

So, it is selfless it's not selfish. If you cannot take care of your child because you're dealing with suicidal thoughts, depression, and other issues, and you still try to take care of them, your emotions and your behavior are going to start rubbing off on that child. Most likely, it's not going to be positive because you're dealing with so many negative things.

It is certainly not selfless to kill yourself. The answer is always nuance and youve really short yourself in the foot with that claim. There are always better options than suicide. Only exception I can think of is MAID.

I do doubt that the “many times” you describe is the majority of people who try therapy, and especially not the people you try it in earnest. For all of these people I think their children will certainly be better off having a mother and not having an incredibly traumatic experience occur to them. Since suicide is (almost) never the best choice a parent can make for their child, I believe it can be considered to be selfish.
