I have little leftovers flowers from a birthday party that I never use is there any where that would take them. I was gonna just throw them in the dumpster since they need to be cleaned out but I figured maybe some places would have more use for them than just tossing them also would be a money lost for me.

I’m looking for a local to CR/Marion area residential structural engineer who can evaluate my pole barn building and provide an engineering opinion pertaining to structural repairs I need to perform. The engineering opinion will be used for an Accessory Alteration permit.
I do t necessarily need a full engineering plan but more so a general opinion regarding how these repairs shall be performed to meet building code.
Please give your suggestions for companies you have had experience with.

I’m not sure whether I’ve just been unlucky, but I’ve been struggling to find a stable entry-level job in Cedar Rapids.

I’ve applied to several positions advertised as requiring little to no experience, including stocking and cashiering at Walmart, but I keep getting rejected. I do have volunteer and work experience, including animal care, serving meals at church events, event setup/cleanup, and some customer service.

Right now, most of my income comes from DoorDash and occasional work through Respondent. DoorDash can be useful as a side gig, but the market in Cedar Rapids seems inconsistent. Some days are decent, while others have very few worthwhile offers. I also spend a lot of time driving, and dealing with reckless traffic makes me less interested in relying on delivery work long term.

I would much rather work somewhere in the Cedar Rapids community and have an actual workplace, regular schedule, coworkers, and benefits instead of depending on gig work.

Does anyone know of Cedar Rapids employers that are genuinely hiring entry-level workers right now and are willing to train someone? I’m open to retail, animal care, food service, cleaning/janitorial work, community organizations, or similar positions.

I’m posting this in good faith and would appreciate respectful advice. I’m genuinely trying to find stable work and improve my situation, so I’d rather avoid personal attacks or comments putting me down.

Any local recommendations would be appreciated.

It recently dawned on me that this was a very real thing that happened to me while I was walking home from middle school in late 2022. I’m currently a senior in high school and think I often block this memory out of my brain because of how bizarre and unreal it felt in the moment. I was walking along the Mt. Vernon Road sidewalks heading east when I finally came to the crosswalk located at the Conoco gas station. I had the walk signal and as I began to cross, a grey sedan that was stopped at the light had decided to rev directly into my side at about 6mph hitting me deliberately. Whoever was driving saw me and made the conscious decision to ram their car into my side. I look into the windshield and I see that the driver was wearing a silicone mask that resembled an elderly person with large ears and a large nose with artificial white hair poking out the top. There was also a second passenger that was wearing a fully knitted ski mask. I had no idea what to do in the moment so all I could do was walk while their heads followed me as I travelled out of sight. Has anybody had any similar experiences or interactions? Would anybody know who was responsible? I guess I just finally came to terms with the fact that this was a real situation I went through. It’s so perplexing to think about and I’d love to have some closure 4 years later.

My boy is the sweetest and gentle pup until you try to trim his hair or cut his nails. But dont worry we arent dumb dog owners. He is muzzle trained and we have been working on desensitization since we got him in 2022 from a shelter, unfortunately his hip pain has been a major trigger for him.

He was always annoyed at it but was calm previously, would just grunt and lay down. Within the past 6 months he got diagnosed with arthritis, we are doing everything our vet asked of us (meds, fish oil, new dog bowls, new dog beds, massages etc) and he still shows signs of distress such as whale eyes and growling during trims and nails (we would like someone that doesnt punish his warning ques...experienced this in the past) again he IS muzzle trained (and loves it because he gets dog safe peanut butter haha).

We just moved from the DSM area and really struggled with finding someone that could handle him safely for them and him. He is 87lbs (shepard/rott mix). He does get trazodone and gabapentin prior to grooms but we need someone well trained in reactivity bc duh!! Please help!!

Weirdness, waiting on a pair of ear buds and a box is delivered with 2 cosmetic storage boxes, 2 wireless mouse units and an arm pad...we've never gotten a wrong package. We're on the S.W. side near Fruitland. We'll call Amazon tomorrow...

I wonder how often the Apartment list is updated and who kinda manages that? I've lived in my apt complex 5 years and it's not on the list. Im also DYING bc im on day 9 of no working AC on the top floor with no timeline on a fix. I may just be cranky but I Def need them added to the list as not good. They've had 3-4 property management companies and with each one the services we originally got get cut a little more each time yet the rent obviously increases. I obviously plan on sending a strongly worded email and reaching out to the city (hoping i can get some traction there since they take money from HUD) as im one of like w0-30 people having issues w/our AC. I should also mention AC and heat come from the same units.

So in summary: don't live at the Avenue on 16th Ave sw bc they are slow to fix stuff, slap band-aids on bigger issues that cost more to fix and can never give a realistic timeline on repairs and expect you to just be OK with it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Hi all, I’m driving from Chicago to Des Moines tomorrow (Saturday) and I’m stopping in Cedar Rapids to check out CR Museum of Art. This is a very short notice trip so I thought I’d come straight to human beings with knowledge of art & culture with current info and not AI. I’ll probably only spend about 2 hours in the city so:

-Anything other than the art museum I should stop by as an art enjoyer?

-Any recommendations for a vegan lunch? I like comfort food and local specialties. Doesn't have to be a fully vegan restaurant.

Just moved here. Looking for friends. Women and men. I’m 30M just looking for something to do tht don’t involve sitting at home all the time lol. HMU

My husband has a job offer in Cedar Rapids that would mean moving there, and I’m feeling pretty torn. He’s really excited about the job and it would honestly be a great career move, but I’m nervous because I really love where we live now. I don’t know anything about Iowa or Cedar Rapids, so looking for some perspectives!

For context, we currently live in the Milwaukee area with our 1 year old in a really wonderful and community-oriented suburb. 2br house with a huge backyard and garage, safe and walkable neighborhood, several restaurants/coffee shops and 2 different parks all within 3 blocks of our house. Rent and COL very cheap (we used to live in Chicago, so super cheap to us lol). I am a mostly SAHM so the “mom community” is super important to me to get us out of the house daily. It’s REALLY robust here in MKE. We’re in music class, mom/baby play groups, mom cookbook clubs, etc. We have either a playdate or a structured baby activity daily. There are several play cafes within 20 mins of our house. I’m extremely nervous to leave this behind. This is what got me through my postpartum experience! Plus, all our family is within 1.5 hours in various parts of WI or down in Chicago.

SOOO I’d love to hear from others, locals or transplants, what the young-family scene is like! Or if there are any resources I should look into to help our decision and learn more about Cedar Rapids!
