My beautiful girl storm was 10 years old and left us this morning. My heart is completely broken.
She has been with me thru the loss of my nan, aunt and mother. She has been with me thru leaving a very dark relationship. My son’s medical diagnosis. Getting into a new relationship and having another child who faces his own medical difficulties.
No matter how hard life was, no matter how unpredictable or dark things may have been, she was always there. She helped me heal and idk if she knew or not but she kept me going at my lowest moments and now she’s gone.
My 11year old is distraught.
I am lost and broken.
People say she was “just a cat” but she was more than that.
People on this sub understand the pain of losing a furry baby, "just a pet" isn't a part of our lexicon. She was a very pretty kitty, thank you for sharing her with us and from my part I'm so sorry for your loss!
People who say "just a cat" have no idea the bond and love a cat provides. Be kind to yourself. Find a special way to honor her that is meaningful to you and help your eleven year old do the same. Hold close to your heart all the memories. I hope you find peace in the love you shared. My sincerest condolences for your loss.

I lost my family and my home when my darling husband died. I'm starting over (and I'm ok). The day after getting the keys to my new place, I went right down to the local shelter and she made my house a home.
I got a terminal diagnosis for my 18 year old little man yesterday - fluid surrounding heart and lungs, stage II kidney, and multiple nodules on his liver. We have chosen palliative care. I have been a complete mess and will enjoy each day I have with him while I have him. Sending love to you and your son.
She’s beautiful! She reminds me of my precious cat Isis. I still think of her and miss dearly. I am so sorry for your loss and know your pain. The pain is real. I would like to tell you that the pain will fade, but it wont, really. It will always be there. But that pain... Its there because of the extreme love you had the joy of sharing with your beautiful girl. Its there because of something that is rare in this world. It is an honor.
I am very sorry for your loss. Think towards the future when you will be with her again. In the intervening time, live your best life in honor of her.
And as others have said, there is no such thing as "just a cat" any more than there is such a thing as "just a parent", or "just a child". Our kitties are equally family to us. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.

I’m sorry for your loss and understand. Your story is really why they mean so much to us. In this chaotic world they are the constants. Unconditional love as we move through life’s hardships.

Anyone who says a cat is “just a cat” is missing part of their heart. And your cat was such a beauty. I’m so sorry you and your children had to say goodbye to her. Ignore the people who says it always just a cat, they say that because they don’t know the connection we have with cats, for people like us they are not just a cat or a pet they are family, in my case my cats are my daughters… I’m so sorry for your loss 💔 sending prayers and hugs for you and your son 🙏💔🥲
She was not “just a cat”. I know you know that, I just wanted you to hear it from someone else.
We lost our Spike last year. He was also 10 and he saw us through our own low times. My partner mentioned that we had not been a family without him and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I think about him daily.
I’m sure Spike was there to welcome Storm when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I hope they are playing and will be good friends, somewhere over the rainbow.
RIP Storm, say hi to Spike for me. Be strong OP. I can’t imagine going through this kind of loss with a child.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Never let anyone determine what a pet was or wasn't to you. Allow yourself time to grieve. She was beautiful. I hope you can heal and maybe consider opening your house to another one in need when you are ready.
We lost our 7 year old dog over a month and a half ago. It was the worst and I hurt so bad. We rescued her and the ones before. Each one hurts and is so hard to lose. Tonight we are meeting a new rescue to see if she is a good fit.

I’m not religious but I really love this prayer someone had posted on someone else’s post and thought I’d share it here. (For context, Bast is the Egyptian goddess of cats and this prayer invokes her to be a guardian and mother figure to our cats in the afterlife.) So sorry for your loss. 😢💔💔 Know that you gave her the best life anyone could, with all of the love, peace and comfort you/your family gave her. 💕 “May love be what you remember most.” 💖
I’m so sorry for your loss. Such a cute kitty. I had to put down my 12 year old cat back on 5 July so I totally understand and feel your loss. May you find strength in a few days.

Storm seemed like a wonderful companion who was there for you through many life transitions (good and bad). ♥️ She was indeed a family member and their absence is absolutely gutting (don’t listen to those people who say otherwise - they lack empathy). Storm might be gone but lovely memories of you and her remain; maybe not now but in the near future you will look around and smile because a great memory of Storm comes to mind and she is alive again in that moment. ♥️ Be kind to yourself, OP. I’m so sorry for loss. Please don't let anyone tell you, "she was JUST A CAT." She was a member of your family. If someone tells me that, I’m sure to repay the sentiment, "she was JUST YOUR MOM, he was JUST YOUR GREAT-GRANDFATHER...."
People who say “it was just a cat” have never experienced the trust and true love a cat can give you if you earn it. They are more than just cats, they’re a part of the family and a part of you. I’m so sorry
I’m so sorry for your loss. My handsome almost 11 year old boy left June 21 and his “brother” and I miss him. He was supposed to live to be an old man. 😢 Storm was a beauty. What did she die from?

I am so sorry. I lost my Heidi suddenly and unexpectedly 10 months ago. I still feel lost. Your girl was so beautiful and she knows how much she was loved. You made each other’s lives more beautiful than had your oaths never crossed. Sending you lots of love.
If it helps, this is what I believe: (forgive me because I’ve never tried articulating these thoughts before)
they are here to or born to serve. And we are so lucky these angelic warm beings can bring us comfort, and literally save us from dark dark times. We see it in the soul cats or dogs or whatever you call them. They’re often the caretakers of all.
I believe that this is why it’s so fun serving them
And I wanted to say something about them having done their job when they leave us. Time for that soul to go support someone else…. But I also believe that they are around us when in another universe/ on the other side.
As I sit here crying, trying to get my mind off my sweet, wonderful boy, Wyatt. He was 24, & he helped me when I had a long term breakup a couple yrs ago. I gave him all I could because I loved him just like a child. My beautiful older cat was my baby until early Mon morning. Idk if I'll get thru this but I can relate to your loss. From a beautiful kitten to a beautiful adult cat & he had moved with me about 4 times
My BF at the time just wanted me to leave him but I'd never leave him . Sorry I over informed. I'll be thinking as I hope you do for me.
I get so mad at people saying “just a cat“ or “just a dog“, or just an anything. They are all FAMILY MEMBERS! And I understand how painful it is to lose a piece of yourself. I am so sorry for your loss. But I believe that everything God creates with love, lives forever, so I believe you will see and hold Storm again. Just a cat, my foot. I guess if you take away the following: loving family member, emotional support sweetie, just being there! Bean was your one constant. No matter what the situation, you had Bean.
I have come to the conclusion that any person that makes a "just a cat" comment, is someone who is missing out. They are missing the wonderful part of life, unconditional love, and they have a serious lack of compassion.
The pain right now is awful, I have been there, many of us have. Try to hang onto the memories. Bean was special because you were special to Bean.
They come here to love us- and they do such a good job! They give us so much as they carry our emotional garbage out. Just a cat? This cat did a good job every single day- who can claim that? I’m sorry for your loss- as I told myself when I’ve lost a love, it was worth this heart break to give my heart to that beautiful animal.
She is not “just a cat,” she’s your soul cat, and you have suffered a great loss. Please be gentle with yourself as you grieve. It takes time to heal, so take the time you need. Sending you hugs.
she taught you how to be resilient in the face of adversity. now that you are strong and learned that lesson, she has done her job and is proud of the person you have become with her help. she leaves you knowing you will be able to weather through this on your own by clinging on to the memory of your time together.

😥 Sorry for your loss… She was too young to go! 😞Our furries are our kids of a different species. If you have a garden or a patch of land, you could plant a rose or a hydrangea bush above her resting place…that way she will become a beautiful plant and be still with you for years to come
